“Beauty all around”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

We went for the butterfly exhibit but stuck around for the lovely orchids and fascinating tropical plants...carnivorous to the beautiful. Fee was very reasonable and staff/volunteers were very helpful and friendly. In the Golden Gate Park close to the De Young Museum and Science center. Great photo taking opportunity.

“Beautiful conservatory”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013 via mobile

We enjoyed the tour very much. Different area showcasing climates gave us so many beautiful plants and flowers to view. As a plant lover, this was such a great attraction. We went while they had butterfly exhibit. Great!!

“Went on a weekday ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2013 via mobile

There was no entrance fee which was a nice surprise. The grounds were well maintained and we loved to walk around discovering different flowers in and around the main building. Very family friendly with lots of information plaques and even some live animals scattered about around small ponds.

“Majestic Building in Golden Gate Park, with orchids, flowers, plants, trees”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2013

Several years ago, the Conservatory was damaged in an early-winter storm of winds and rains. After a closure and re-construction, the Conservatory reopened and looks majestic.

Inside there are various "rooms" of warm weather or humid plants, and cooler weather plants. You will see orchids, countless flowers, palm trees, vanilla trees, a rice paddy at one end with underwater viewing of water plants, towering ferns. The Conservatory is completely enclosed and there is a certain humidity that mimics the rainforest in part of the building. There is a current Butterfly exhibit that has been extended through March 2014.

Note that the entrance fee is $8.00 (can pay by cash or charge at the booth in front). You can leisurely walk through the Conservatory in about one-half hour.

I recommend a visit to the Conservatory as part of a day in Golden Gate Park. (Close by are the de Young museum and the Aquarium.)

Have fun,

“What a delight, especially the butterflies”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2013

Went for a long walk in the botanical gardens and then headed over to the conservatory of flowers. What a delight. The building is beautiful and very nicely restored. The plants are incredible, interesting palms and other tropical plants, and all kinds of beautiful rare orchids. And then there is the butterfly room. It is like being in a fairy tale. Watching the young children chasing the butterflies was really a treat. If you are in Golden Gate Park, don't miss this.
