Owner description: The world’s only aquarium-planetarium-rainforest-living museum. Come nose-to-beak with penguins and parrots, watch sharks and sting rays cruise beneath your feet, and feel the spray of the California coast. Fly to Mars (and beyond the Milky Way!) from the safety of your planetarium seat, take a virtual safari in African Hall, or climb into the canopy of a living rainforest. Face your fears—and an albino alligator—inside the Swamp, and meet scientists as they return from research expeditions around the world. From the depths of a Philippine coral reef to the outer reaches of the Universe, it's all inside the California Academy of Sciences.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2014

One of the top attractions for adults and kids. The planeterium's simulated earthqauke show was really worth the wait and so was the rainforest & aquarium. Such pretty and colourful butterflies and birds, fishes. The albino aligator freaked me out. We saw a very informative session on how to extract DNA using a strawberry. The food at the restaurant was just about okay. Tickets weren't cheap.

The aquarium wow!!!!!!!! Stunning tanks. We spent half a day at the academy we got there early and it was quiet. Was busy by the time we left. The earthquake section was also impressive.

“One of the highlights”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2013

If you have even a passing interest in museums you'll love it. I actually spent just over 3 hours there and could have stayed possibly another hour. The rooftop garden is amazing, very Cali! The space movie narrated by Liam Neeson was fantastic. In a lovely part of the city that is very accessible by tram & a very brief walk to the park that houses the academy. Lots of other attractions in the park & nearby also.

It. was a wonderful program with lot of animals and nature to see and lot to learn. We could experience an earthquake simulation, and discover where all the insect and reptils where hidden in rain forest was lot of fun.

The rainforest and aquarium are simply amazing. So many fish both saltwater and fresh. Reptiles, butterflies, and a very helpful staff. The surrounding park is stunning too. Living in LA and being from Miami I've seen a lot of museums, but this one takes the cake. And the please planetarium is unlike any other as it's an IMAX like dome, playing a 25 min documentary on earthquakes. So fascinating!!! You have to visit!!!
