We chose Casa Luna because it was close to public transit and looked like a lovely unit for 2 couples! It worked for both! Public transit was perfect: 1) Muni Metro was about 50 steps from our door -- fast, easy routes to downtown, cable car, the water, Bart, and other bus connections; 2) F trolley runs directly between Castro district, the ferry terminal, Embarcadero, and Fisherman's Wharf. Keep a map handy and avoid transports around the rush transit hours.

Casa Luna is a lovely combination of housing units that make you feel at home. Our discussions with Irma, the property manager, were helpful and extremely pleasant!

There were a few issues that we encountered beginning with the booking, but it is difficult to find a rental that is perfect. My husband and I are responsible renters and generally accepting of flaws when a place essentially serves our needs. And, Casa Luna does that! I highly recommend it for those who are mobile. This is not a place that would work for people with disabilities.

Room Tip: If stairs are an issue for you, ask whether this is a place for you.

Just stayed in the studio apartment at Casa Luna for a long weekend. The two of us loved it. Fantastic location, and lots of nice thoughtful touches to make the stay special. The perfect hybrid of the location/charm of an AirBnB, but with the reliability and service of a hotel. Would absolutely stay there again.

Casa Luna Apartments - Stayed September 2012

Was the room clean - Yes it was spotless.

Was the bed comfortable - King size bed and it was very comfortable

Was the enviorremnet quiet - The apartments are on 17th street, in the Castro district. There was not enough noise to affect our sleep.

Location - This was our first stay in San Francisco and it was a perfect location. The Muni (subway) was 70 metres from the apartment and the tram about a 100 metres. The bus stops 100 metres.

The staff - This is a self contained apartment, so no staff are on site. However, we did meet the housekeeper when one of the other apartments was vacated. She was very friendly, answered any of our questions, and was very happy.

General information - The Casa Luna Apartments really are perfect. We had the 2 bed 2 bath (2 couples stayed) and it had everything we needed, and then some. The booklet in the apartment explained everything, so it was easy to use all the appliances. There were suggestions for travel, dining, attractions. The dining options were excellent, as we tried a few out. The booklet explained the best value public transport options, and instructions how to get from A to B.

They even supplied boxes to ship items home, which is cheaper than excess baggage fees on the airlines

The Wi-Fi was fast, worked in every room, and was free.

There is a great grocery store on 18th street called Molly's. Fresh delicious produce, at very good prices. Laundry downstairs with modern appliances.

We can't wait to come back to Casa Luna apartments.

My advice if your staying in San Francisco is stop looking, and just book here.

Room Tip: There are a few steps, but they are worth it.

Just back from a week in Casa Luna via the madness of Vegas. And what a fantastic retreat it was. A really charming and comfortable apartment which was a pleasure to come home to at the end of each day. There's every creature comfort you could wish for, peace ad tranquility, wi-fi access and wonderful views of Twin Peaks from the lounge window (we were in the upper apartment).
It's a perfect location, too. The Muni transport system really is steps from the apartment so you can be in downtown in minutes - or direct to Fisherman's wharf etc by the rather slower, though very picturesque, F-line. Plenty of excellent restaurants neabry and we will really miss our daily walks to Molly Stone's supermarket a couple of blocks away.
The only negatives were tiny. One being that we were surprisingly chilly when we arrived (an unusually cold day plus we'd been used to the furnace of Las Vegas) and it took a while to warm the place up (fine once we'd sorted out how). And the other being that families with younger kids might find the anything-goes philosophy of the immediate neighbourhood could be a little offputting or difficult to explain to questioning children - though we just thought it added character and colour! Oh, and maybe should mention that the steps to the front foor are very steep and might prove a challenge to the elderly/infirm.
Overall, though, a near-perfect base in a fabulous city. All that to a backfdrop of Andy Murray winning the US open - holidays don't get much better than that.

Room Tip: No idea what the downstairs apartment is like, but it would be hard to beat the upper floor apartmen...

Had the pleasure of staying Labor Day Weekend at Casa Luna. It was a perfect location for 4 of us (2 couples) to enjoy San Francisco. Casa Luna is at the corner of Castro and Market. Ideal location to catch the F line or the subway. You can also walk to so many areas from the Castro District.

Casa Luna is a great option while visiting San Francisco. We stayed in the upper flat and the floor plan was perfect with a bedroom at the front of the flat and another at the back. This gave all of us a little bit of privacy when we needed it. I was most impressed with Casa Luna's attention to detail. They think of everything you possibly could need while visiting and they have it for you to use. It was so nice not to have to run out and pick up items you preferred not to travel with.

Finally, Casa Luna's level of customer service is excellent. Debbie was a true pleasure to work with while planning this trip. During our stay, the Internet service went out on Saturday evening and Wyatt came to the flat, found the issue, and repaired the problem. We could not believe this level of service on a Saturday evening. Wow!

I highly recommend you consider Casa Luna while visiting San Francisco. The flat is great, the service suburb, and the location perfect.

Room Tip: Stay in the upper flat to enjoy the view from the front living room.

Right off the heart of Castro, this flat has everything you need. The owner stocks it with cheese and crackers for you. It has anything you would need to good in the large kitchen. It also it great for two couple who are looking to share a place with separate exits. It was laundry which came in handy after a long two week trip to go how with clean laundry in luggage. The front bed room has pocket doors that open to the living room and entertainment area. The backroom is the master. I looks over the large zen garden and had a bedroom sized bathroom with bidet, heated floor, and jacuzzi tub. May still need to cut the price 15-20% especially due to the unexpected high taxed added to the bookings reservation.

We stayed at Casa Luna for 3 nights (with our 3 teen sons) in mid June, 2012. It was a great alternative to a hotel room or suite. Lots of space: full kitchen, dining room, living room, lovely garden/patio, and 2 nice size bedrooms and 2 full baths. Extremely convenient location. The beds were very comfortable and it is obvious that the owners have put a lot of care and attention into the place. It was very clean and well kept with many extras like coffee, laundry room, toiletries, and linens. The location was literally steps to pubic transportation and we enjoyed walking to shops and restaurants in the Castro section. This is a great spot and we won't hesitate to recommend it to family and friends traveling to San Francisco.
