“Clean, comfertable and in an excellent location.”

We wished to stay in a central location in San Francsisco which is why we choose the Chancellor. Being just off Union Square, next to the cable cars and within a 3 minute walk to the bus stop to FW, it was the perfect base. It is also a short from the BART, which has a direct line from the aiport. There are plenty of places to eat near the hotel, including a Starbucks opposite. The majority of the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was big enough for us and most importantly, it was comfertable and clean. Initially, I was concerned about noise as our window looked onto Powell Street, but we were not disturbed once. The bathroom was perhaps a little small, but perfectly suitable and clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the hotel.

Tripadvisor never lets me down! We were getting off the ship from our Alaska cruise in SF and needed a central hotel for a couple of days before we flew home. The Chancellor fit the bill perfectly. We caught the tram from right in front of the cruise ship terminal to within two blocks of the hotel. We arrived before nine am but had a reservation. The front desk staff very kindly kept our luggage locked up while we went off for a walk. An hour later, our room was ready - a nice sized room overlooking Powell Street. The room was clean and had a very comfortable bed and pillows, lots of hot water and easy wifi. The location can't be beat - the Hilton, the Clift, the Weston St. Francis, Grand Hyatt and the St. Francis Drake all within a block or two but at two or three times the price. Lots of good restaurants and transportation to everywhere. The Health Spa is complimentary at Club One on Mason St.
There is happy hour from 5:00 to 7:30 pm in the downstairs bar. The fellow at the tour desk was helpful in arranging a shuttle to the airport for us. I highly recommend the Chancellor Hotel.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking Powell Street. The windows opened for a little fresh air but were pretty s...

The Chancellor Hotel is our favorite Hotel we visited while in the US. Off Union Square but conveniently located to all major sights in San Francisco. Very clean, elegant and the kids who I thought would be bored found it very amusing in its style and grace. The free coffee and cookies were a hit with us plus the cookies were a treat for the kids. Within walking distance to china town and shopping.

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights, couldn't have asked for better location and services.
We def recommend this hotel to anyone who is staying for short breaks to explore San Francisco sights. Free Wifi and cookies/water/tea coffee added bonus.

Can book trips and airport transfers at good rates inside the hotel.

Location, rooms and service - the Cancellor Hotel is simply an excellent choice for a stay in SF. We were there for 4 days. We had a suite and a double bed room. Both very clean and good furnished. All tourist attractions are nearby and the Union Square is such an exciting place that one should not spent time for taxis or subways to attend. Every time again!

It's clean, it's well furnished, it has a central location, it has a free coffee machine and cookies for guests, the wi-fi works well and it's quiet. What else can you ask for!
Having said that, Union square if a shopping district. I would have preferred to stay at Fisherman's wharf! But nothing is too far away and transport system is pretty cool. This hotel was an excellent choice!
And yes, you would never need an AC in SFO. So don't worry about no AC in Chancellor.

Room Tip: We just generally asked for a quiet room and got one. Don't know how other rooms would be like!

Prior to our trip my husband had e-mailed the hotel with a couple of request. Upon arrival we had a swift and friendly check-in, which was appreciate after such a long journey. Our room was located as per request at the front of the hotel (room 502). There were some really nice touches as I was celebrating my birthday whilst there. A bottle of wine, divine chocolates and a photograph frame, which I discovered later in our stay, plus a Chancellor duck another request. The room was light and had an old worldly feel about it, which adds to the character of the hotel.

The bathroom, although on the small size was adequate (after all we were not planning to hold a party in there). It was restocked with toiletries daily and if need be the towels would be change daily.

In the closet there was a safe (free of charge) as well as the usual amenities, plus an umbrella. It was a good size and held both our cases as well as our other luggage.
We had no problems sleeping and the bed was one of the best we have ever slept on (wish we could have brought it home). The pillows were also divine, so we didn’t opt from any of the others available from the pillow menu. Okay we were at the front of the hotel, as we wanted to experience the sights and sounds of the city, so the hustle and bustle of Powell Street did not bother us, even when we had the window open one night.

The staff made each guest feel as they were their only guest and nothing was too much trouble, even when I wanted the location of the Mrs Doubtfire house. Rory, was able to assist me with that and asked me the following evening if we had found it. We only hope that we can reciprocate the welcome when he comes home to Ireland.

This hotel is in an excellent location and even one gentleman who was not a guest stated to us that we had at least got a hotel on Union Square and was surprised when we told him where we were staying. Outside the front door is the cable car, buses are within easy reach as are the trams. A single cable car ride is $6, so we are glad that we had the MUNI Passes, like other reviews have mentioned, for we got good use from it as we travelled daily on the cable car to the wharf for breakfast.

We would certainly return to the Chancellor if visiting San Fransisco. A great start to our holiday!.

Room Tip: Go with the flow and stay at the front of the hotel.
