We were given complimentary champagne! Also, apples, cookies, tea & coffee free round the clock. The cable car stops right outside the door & other transit is quite close. Rooms are ample with a big closet and calming green decor. The pillow menu is another nice touch. A great choice...charming!

Chancellor hotel is a rather small charming hotel near Union Square. The location is very central and convenient
We were pleased with our cosy, clean rooms. Beds are of good quality but only queen size is available and the singles are very narrow. Rooms have all comfort but are rather small.
The hotel has it own parking facility nearby, which is very convenient.
The staff is very helpful and friendly.
The breakfast is just average and the service was not optimal as we had the impression that the waitresses were students with not much experience

I stayed at the Chancellor for 10 nights when I was in San Fran for work. Situated opposite union square I couldn't have asked for a better location. Cable car stop outside the front of the hotel was an added bonus as well. Staff were friendly and the cleaners fantastic. Came back to a spotless room every night. People have mentioned the rooms are small, but with a sitting area, desk, wardrobe and drawers to pack away your luggage I found it very comfortable. The only advice I have is to make sure you pack your ear plugs. No fault of the hotel, just a fact of being in downtown San Francisco.

This hotel has bags of character and in an excellent location being handy to transport and the shops/restaurants in the Union Square area. Staff are friendly and helpful and room prices are reasonable for this location. We upgraded to a suite on the 14th floor, good size, quiet and comfortable and spotlessly clean. If we're ever back in San Francisco we would definitely stay here again.

To kick off our honeymoon, my husband and I chose the Chancellor because of its central location and reasonable price in comparison with other places in San Francisco. We arrived, got speedily checked in and allocated a nice room on the 15th floor. Great views plus a bottle of sparkling wine and chocs as we were honeymooning.

The room was clean and the bed very comfortable and warm. Views were great over the City and Union Square without being too noisy as we were high up. The only thing I didn't like was a neon sign just across the street that caused a minor light disturbance during the night. Some special manouevring of curtains sorted this out.

We had breakfast in the restaurant one morning and whilst expensive (like most things in San Francisco) was served promptly and politely. All in all a good stay. For guests wondering whether to stay on Union Square or Fisherman's Wharf (like we were) I would choose Union Square every time. Great for shopping (Macy's, Tiffany, Victoria Secrets and even a Lush Cosmetics), eateries and you can catch the Cable car on Powell just a stone through away from the hotel. There is also a Walgreens about a minute's walk away for any essentials you might need.

Room Tip: Due to the hotel's central city location, a higher floor is quieter plus you get views of the Ci...

This was my third trip to San Francisco and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the chancellor hotel. I have stayed at 5 star hotels in San Francisco however the service and atmosphere of this hotel was a much more genuine experience. The location is perfect and in a safe area. There are many restaurants and bars within walking distance and public transport is easily accessible. I really like the boutique feel of the hotel and there are many older features which have been well preserved. The hotel is great value for money and I will be recommending it to friends and family.

Thank you very much. Your comments really mean a lot to us. While we do not try to be a 5 star hotel in terms of luxury, decor and all the things that physically make a hotel 5 stars, we do try to provide 5 star service. Thanks again and come back soon!

Stayed here in march the first hotel in our mini world tour. Firstly the location is excellent right by union square however that does mean noise. We were on 8th floor at front of hotel almost overlooking union square. A number of people have said its right by the BART station however it is a good 150 yards uphill so if u have a lot of luggage like we did be prepared. The rooms I didn't find small as stated by a number of people. There was also a walk in closet to store all your luggage. The beds were very comfortable and all the staff very efficient and friendly. In fact the only downside which cost it a fifth star was the bathrooms which was a little tired and need a spruce up. That said its nice to stay in a non chain hotel and if in San Francisco again I would stay here

Quirky and comfortable...That is the Chancellor Hotel!
I don't know how the misunderstanding with our location relative to the BART station occurred, but we are definitely not right next to it. We are actually a lot more than 150 yards - 4 1/2 blocks

Our bathrooms are our weakness. They are small, plain and basic. We are in the process of a sprucing up, but that is a long ways off. However, even when we re-do them, they will still be small and we will still get complaints about that.

All the rooms are basically the same size as the one you stayed in - so it is funny how the same room is small to some and fine for others.

Thanks and we look forward to serving you in with a spruced up bathroom on your next visit.
