“Small touches make this place a winner!”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

My wife and I were very happy with our stay in the Chancellor. This place really has a lot of character. The staff were all very friendly and helpful when needed, in particular Rory from Ireland! The rooms were good and well serviced, noise from the street wasn't too loud and never really bothered us. I don't know if everyone gets it but I must also mention the lovely gifts that greet you when you first arrive in your room. We stayed on two separate occasions and first time we got a bottle of wine and second time we got a small picture frame. Wonderful! There is loads of little small touches as well which come together to make this hotel a real treat to stay in!

The only negative I would mention is I'm not sure I'd recommend for people staying during the hottest months of the year. There did seem to be some sort air conditioning box on the wall with a dial for controlling the temp but turning this up or down did nothing? When my wife was drying her hair the room got very warm even with the fan on and windows open. At any other time though the temperature in the room was fine.

This hotel is located in the best place in San Francisco: Union Square. Close to malls, stores, bars and restaurants. You an enjoy all these attractions and also find easy way to get the cable car and other kind if public transportantion to any point of the city.

This is my 8th time to San Fran and I have stayed in several spots including the Westin and Fairmont hotels. This is by far and away the best hotel stay I have had. The check in was seamless, staff helpful. Room was not large but well appointed, with great use of the space. The lobby service of fresh cookies, water, fruit, tea and coffee was a nice touch. The little things make all the difference in a hotel stay. A terrific experience and the price was unbeatable for a location right on Union Square.

Room Tip: Had a twin room number 506 - extremely quiet even thought the hotel was full.

This little hotel is a find. The staff made our hotel stay a wonderful experience. It is within walking distance to the Curran, Union Square, China town, Bart, and shopping. The Cable Car to the Wharf stops in front of the hotel. The parking couldn't be easier or more reasonable. Thank you for a great time. The rooms are comfortable but not huge and the bedding is lovely. Don't hesitate to book this hotel

i stayed for three nights - as soon as, arrived i found the staff went out of their way to be helpful. the room was very comfortable and attractive, an excellent bed and i had a large walk in closet. location coud not be better! i think the only way to beat this hotel would be to pay several hundred dollars more per night!

We checked into the Chancellor in beautiful San Francisco to enjoy Superbowl Sunday in the heart of the city. The hotel had a nice, homey feeling to it, and the staff were above par. Check- in was easy, and the hotel couldn't have been better placed. Literally, much that the City has to offer is just footsteps away. The room was small, but very nicely decorated. Loved the flatscreen TV, as we had cocktails and enjoyed the first portion of the game in our room. Even though our team fell a little short, our stay at the Chancellor was a true touchdown. We will return!

Room Tip: If you don't mind walking and rolling your luggage a few blocks, the Stockton street parking gar...

...only you are meticulously attended to. My husband and I stopped overnight in San Francisco on our way to Auckland, New Zealand. We had stayed at the Chancellor 25 years ago when attending my sister's wedding. The hotel has been beautifully redecorated but still has maintained the wonderful old style and comfortableness that we had remembered.
We arrived late from the airport and were greeted with fresh coffee and a fresh bowl of apples at the front desk. Then, to our surprise, we were upgraded to a suite. The rooms remind me of hotel rooms in London...small, beautifully decorated, great bedding and linens, totally comfortable. The bathrooms (there were 2) were immaculate and supplied with high end accoutrements.
We spent the next day visiting Hyde Street Pier and Fisherman's Wharf via cable car while the hotel gladly held our luggage and when we returned there was a samovoir of iced water with limes and cookies in the lobby. The hotel then arranged for our easy transfer to the airport for our flight.
If you like personal, comfortable, reasonably priced hotels, this is the hotel for you.
I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Room Tip: The suite is great...1501

Your comments outline exactly what we try to be and deliver for our guests. Thank you!

Not everyone appreciates the old style, but if they do, we can be a great choice.

Please don't wait another 25 years before you come back!
