“Great value, location and staff.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013 via mobile

All the positive remarks on Trip Advisor led us to choose this hotel for our 3 night stay in San Francisco. All true, so I won't repeat too much of the same. This was the perfect location, close to major transportation. Rooms are clean, perfectly adequate, cozy & very comfortable. Staff were great. (Kent, the Bellman was especially friendly & helpful with more than luggage.) Great value for a prime location. I appreciated that things like wi-fi & refrigerator are complimentary. I only wished we had a coffee maker in the room, but free coffee, tea & snacks were always available in the lobby. As our daughter now lives in SF, this will be our hotel of choice for future visits.

I absolutely loved my stay at this hotel. Its right by the trolley line so you can open your window up and hear the trolley and enjoy the scenic views right from your hotel room. I escaped onto the fire escape which I probably shouldn't have done but it was awesome and I will do it again if I get the chance. You are like a 100 yards off of Union Square which is pretty awesome. I was there at winter time so they had an ice rink setup (although they had to have a generator to keep it cold enough b/c San Fran is way to warm for ice). I was able to get to everything in the city by public transit right from this hotel. They even have free umbrellas for you to borrow in your room since its quite common to rain in San Fran. The staff were friendly, the rooms are small but unique and comfortable. There is a bar with fair prices in the lobby. You are also a short walk to a bar I enjoyed called "Top of the Tunnel" where I was able to drink some good microbrews while waiting to meet our friends for dinner. I will book this hotel in a heartbeat next time I go to San Fran.

Room Tip: asks for a hotel room as high as you can and facing the street for the best view, I don't know w...

Thank you for the high praise. Just for the record, we do not recommend people go out on the fire escapes. If they fall, it can be really messy for us and painful for them.

This hotel is in a great location close to where its all happening on Union Square. The rooms are definitely small and for once I actually found the bed (we had single twin beds) to be small and uncomfortable although my partner had no problems with them. The rooms were very clean, the staff were always helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here although the greater part of that time was spent outdoors shopping with my partner and enjoying everything San Francisco had to offer.Otherwise its a great hotel to base yourself in when visiting San Francisco.

Room Tip: i cant speak for the other rooms but we asked for a room at the back of the hotel to stay away from...

It has been several years since we stayed at the Chancellor and found the room upgrades very nice. Room was comfortable and clean. Room service food and restaurant were very good and reasonably priced. Desk staff were friendly. The lobby is a nice area to relax. Location cannot be better, right on the corner of Union Square with the cable car out the door! We will be back!

Room Tip: Interior rooms are a bit larger than some on the front. Love the walk-in closet with two luggage ra...

This hotel is located on Powell St. at Union Square, just a few blocks from the cable car turnaround on Market. The room was small (European like) but quite clean, comfortable and nicely furnished. They have a very good restaurant (Luques) which serves a tasty breakfast as well as lunch. The bell and front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. Parking is located in an off-site garage (2 minute walk) and valet is available. It's an easy walk to China Town and a number of other areas, and more distant destinations are readily accessible by public transportation. There is a small bar on the ground floor.

Great service from check-in to check-out.The room was clean, and the room was just the right size for 2 people who spend most there time walking the city and enjoying all it has to offer. I would recommend getting the parking package(either one). We thank you for a great anniversary weekend. P.s. it's the best deal on the square...but don't tell anyone.

Nice friendly cost effective town centre hotel with friendly staff, good service, great breakfast.
Front rooms are a bit noisy, rooms are well fitted but the walls and doors look old. Easy to walk to most downtown shopping and close to many bars and restaurants

Room Tip: It's great to look out to the corner of Union Square, but these front rooms are noisy. If you ne...
