“Great hotel in San Francisco”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2013

What a pleasant surprise to have found the Huntington. The rooom was nice a spacious and the bathroom had everything needed. The bar was excellent and made the best Martini's in town. Restourant was excellent but breakfast a bit slow. I especially appeciate them ordering gluten free bread on request. The private limo site seeing tour the hotel arranged was outstanding, took us to alll the sites in 3 hours and well worth the cost. Will stay there again.

Room Tip: South side rooms have wonderful sun in winter.

Hello Nico558,

Thank you for your recent review of your stay with us here at the Huntington! We really do appreciate all of the feedback we receive from our guests. We're so happy to hear that you enjoyed the spaciousness of your room and the amazing martinis made by our Big 4 bar staff...we frequently hear that they're the best martinis in town! It's great that our Concierge was able to arrange for a sightseeing tour for you -- and that you got to see the best that San Francisco has to offer during your visit! You certainly have many choices of where to stay when you visit San Francisco, and we definitely appreciate you choosing to stay with us. We're looking forward to your next visit!

Have a terrific day, and we wish you happy and safe future travels...

Cheers,
Kellie

I have stayed in various hotels in San Francisco but I have to say that this is my favorite hotel so far, despite its "shortcomings". We flew into SFO and took Lorrie's shuttle (www.gosfovan.com) to the hotel. Roundtrip shared van is about $32 (discount code: gosfovan saves you $2 on the roundtrip). Keep in mind that this is an old hotel and they are in the process of renovations (think some construction noise during the day). That said, I had a room on the 7th floor and my friend had a room on the 8th floor. She was bothered by the noise and they immediately changed her room to the the top floor (12th). Both of our rooms were facing the front of the hotel and had awesome views of Grace Episcopal Cathedral, the park, one of the "original four" mansions and the Fairmount. My friend's room on the 12th floor had fabulous views across the bay of Alcatraz as well. The rooms are large, with vintage 50's furniture (think "Mad Men") but the carpets/linens need to be replaced and everything is a bit worn and dated and the beds are a bit hard. That said, they are renovating. The doormen and front desk staff are terrific and everybody is friendly, helpful and accomodating. Did not eat in the restaurant but had drinks there in the evening. Piano player. The clientele ages ranged from 20's to 70's and everything in between. Pretty well-heeled crowd. My friend had a 90 minute massage for $185 and her masseuse was a little rough and she felt bruised and sore afterwards. We walked everywhere from here and the cable car goes right past the front door ($6/ride and hop on enroute so you can avoid the LONG lines at the terminus). We walked over to Amelie wine bar (www.ameliewinebar.com) and had an awesome happy hour. Definitely a young crowd but the guys who run it are ridiculously ethnic and handsome. We also went to Twenty-five Lusk ( 25Lusk.com)and that was also a great find. We walked there in about 30 minutes and took a cab back for about $11-$12). But back to the hotel. It was quiet, elegant and perfectly located on top of Nob Hill with attentive and friendly service. You can walk anywhere from here (Union Square in about 10 minutes, China Town in about 8 minutes, etc.). The rooms are very large (formerly they were apartments) but the bathrooms are smallish. We got a great deal for rooms during the week for $159/room but the price went up on the weekends). I would definitely return here again because I think I left my heart in this SFO gem!

Room Tip: Request a room at the front of the hotel and on the 10th-12th floor.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Huntington. The staff was extremely helpful when we needed directions, recommendations on restaurants, etc. The hotel itself is old but has recently been renovated, the lobby is beautiful, the building definitely has an old-world charm - small elevators, ivy on the outside, etc. The restaurant had delicious food and luxurious dark wood decor. Our room was huge! We could not believe how spacious it was (king size bed, desk, bar area, couch, etc.) and the windows opened. It was so nice to be able to have fresh air, hear the noise of the city, etc. The bed was very comfortable and nightly turn down service with free bottles of water was much appreciated! The bathroom had recently been renovated with marble, granite, etc. it was lovely, though not much counter space (but that wasn't a big deal). The only thing we weren't satisfied with was the business center, we needed to send a one page fax and the cost was $5 - seemed like a rip off so we waited until we got home to send it. The hotel itself is in a great location, the cable car runs right in front of the hotel. We bought an all day pass and rode each line from end to end, a great and cheap way to see the city! We would definitely stay at the Huntington again and would recommend it for someone looking for a hotel in San Francisco, it's a great hotel.

The Huntigton's location is great. It's walking-distance to downtown, but area is still peaceful. Room was large, very comfortable and well equipped. View of our room was facing to downtown. Breakfast-restaurant is elegant and fresh fruits and berries tasty. Unfortunately the spa was under renovation, but I had great manicure and pedicure.

Ease of check-in with upgrade to Jr. suite when asking for 2 beds. Friendly staff, including the doorman and luggage man. Turndown service was nice and extra towels when requested. Welcome tea service at check in - a lovely touch.
Housekeeping brought a flower vase when my daughter had a bouquet that needed water!
Great location on top of Nob Hill on the California cable car line.
Only one of the two elevators was working. No coffee maker in the room, and no free coffee in the lobby.

Room Tip: Spa was being renovated during our stay. Large rooms on upper floors.

Fantastic old school charm with lot's of space and a very friendly crew. Nice location in Nob Hill with a 10 min ride to the Fisherman's Whatf and Crissy Field.

Good spot if you want some room to stretch! Very large rooms.

Decor is a bit dated, but very functional.

The rooms are large for the downtown area of San Francisco. The King Size bed was extremely comfortable and the outside noise was completely extinguished by the quality windows. We had a north facing room with lovely views of Grace Cathedral and the Nob Hill Square. The view was great for people watching, especially for the abundance of dog owners. The hotel was impeccably clean, even the glass lighting fixtures in the hallway were dust free. The jacuzzi and pool, which are open to all hotel guests, were spotless and the towels were soft. The staff was happy to greet us and the concierge "Chris" was full of priceless information for our exploration of the city. We found a great deal on booking.com for this hotel and would stay again.

Room Tip: Expect any parking to be expensive (rates in area $27-$60/day), making the $44 valet service seem re...
