I expect people don't come here because it's not on Union SQ or downtown but compared to Union SQ, this is a great location right next to Japantown. There's a big Japanese soaking tub in the bathroom and moving Shoji screens to big outdoor windows. Good wifi and spacious room but in need of facelift to make really outstanding. I wandered around the Japantown shopping mall which a friend of mine says is very much like a mall in Tokyo. Had a delicious meal in a place called "On The Bridge". Back at the room, looked west and south from my windows. Wandered up Fillmore Street the next day in Pacific Heights. Cool restaurants and trendy shops then ended up at Jackson SQ which is beautiful city park full pure bred dogs, kids and an extraordinary view every direction. You get a coffee maker with decent coffee but like most places, only powdered creamer. I did stay at a hotel once with real half and half in a little plastic, sealed container and I don't know why more good hotels don't use these.

Room Tip: corner rooms have more windows.

As you addressed, while not on Union, we are certainly accessible to it and to so many other hot spots, that our site's hard to beat. With continued updates being performed across the property, we hope that you'll return soon to experience the comforts of our renovated spaces and the many upgrades in store. Please feel free to reach out to our team for details and with any of your future booking needs. All our best, and thanks for the great review!

Wonderful hotel in the middle of japantown. Steps away from restaurants, cafés, and Japanese shops. Rooms are spacious and Japanese styled. Ask for a room on the top as the views are beautiful. Parking is easy on the street in the area for just a few dollars or valet for 40 a day with in and out privileges. The Japanese garden is great for kids to run around and if you need a suite ask for two rooms to be connected on an end using a king room and a double. Great value and family friendly.

I have stayed here during both of my operations at the Californnia Pacific Medical center. They are close to the hospital, with a free shuttle service about every 20 mins. The staff are kind and considerate. They took good care of my daughter while I was having my operation, and it is a lovely dog friendly hotel, though for people who maybe don't like dogs I only saw ours while we were there. They have a lovely little Japaneese garden view in some rooms . The only complaint would be there heating system which tended to run hot. If you keep you heat up in your house you may not notice a difference, but for my daughter and I it was too stuffy .

Room Tip: Can't help you..got a standard room each time with a hospital rate...but don't get a street...

We were there for medical reasons. We were treated royally, shuttled back & forth to CPMC, and the location was convenient for us. The only negative would be the high cost of parking even at the hotel. It seems everything was an extra charge but coming from a small town, we were not used to that.

We're happy to have made your visit an inviting and comfortable one, in spite of the reasons for your San Francisco travels. We certainly aim to provide our guests with a carefree stay at Hotel Kabuki, so we're happy to hear that we accomplished this for you. That said, we're sorry that our parking fee took you by surprise; we aim to be as forthright as possible regarding this and highly competitive in comparison to others in the region. We hope for the chance to host you again under more pleasant circumstances, and we encourage you to reach out to the team with any of your future booking needs. All our best.

Two girlfriends and I stayed in one of the Executive Sauna Suites at the Kabuki in late January 2014. The room was just as pictured on the web site and beautifully appointed. The layout, furnishings and viewing access to the contemplative garden were excellent, and the bed was very comfortable with high quality linens and pillows. The third spot on the sofabed was not so nice, but staff were very helpful in making sure that our third had enough covers and pillows eventually (although only one thin blanket and no pillows were provided upon check in).

I must say the bathroom arrangement is well-designed, with a separate cupboard for the toilet, shower/traditional soaking tub, and sauna, with a well-apportioned communal sink. The only downside here was that there was a noticeable leak in the drain of the poured-in-place and tiled traditional tub. I was a little concerned about how much water was wasted, and the water did not get very hot. Also, towels were only provided for two bathers, not counting that each would like an additional towel for in the sauna, or for a third person, but again staff were very responsive to our request for more linens. And the sauna itself was perfect.

As far as electronics go, the flat screen LCD tv was small and older so it did not accept a HDMI input from my computer to show movies and what was on offer in the hotel channels were pretty thin.

The worst part was that we had loud neighbors that came in about four in the morning and got progressively louder as they continued to drink. Calls to the front desk solved the problem eventually. I guess there's more than one group of locals who use this hotel as a stag/doe party staging ground. Beware, but don't be frightened.

The convenience of the traditional Japanese spa just two blocks away, and the shopping center right next door, make this a great destination hotel for those seeking to a have a true ryokan experience on the Eastern rim of the Pacific.

Room Tip: I really liked having a sauna in the room and I recommend it.

I thoroughly enjoyed Hotel kabuki last month. The room was spacious, very clean, with a great bathroom, and rice paper screens as window coverings. Comfy beds, a great soaking tub,and robes made this the perfect spot for a great nights rest. We walked to a fantastic Ethiopian restaurant, Sheba, that had live music, and made great cocktails. I will stay there again.

I only spent a couple of nights there, as I was scheduled for a knee replacement
at a nearby hospital, but I was very satisfied with my time there. My friend ended
up spending 3 additional nights and she said that she was quite happy with
everything. The only downfall was parking, as you paid another $40 something
dollars on top of your room $$, unless you decided to park in private lot that was 2-3 stories below ground for an additional $ 23/day !! Overall, I enjoyed my stay, a very well kept hotel.
Katherine at the front desk was extremely helpful..........
