This was my second stay at Hotel Kabuki and it was as wonderful as the first time! Excellent staff and a perfect nights sleep! I love the Japantown vibe and I can't wait to make another trip to San Francisco!

Room Tip: The Corner rooms offer the best views. But it's the Japantown location that makes the stay worth...

I had the privilege of staying at this hotel on a business trip last week. It's a nice hotel in a nice part of town with plenty of access to food and activities. Even walking around in the area is nice. The staff is very helpful, the checkin and out process is very smooth and the rooms are in overall good shape. Of course the hotel is very Orient inspired and they do a great job of keeping with the theme throughout.

Room Tip: High floors have reasonable views

We have been going to the Kabuki for a couple of years. It is in a great part of town. It is easy to get to from either bridge. We love Freddy he is the best valet attendant in town. He always has a smile on his face. The front desk is always very busy but also very helpful. The bartender is so friendly and he is always happy too! The Kabuki can be a little pricey but it is worth it. There is something to be said for a service oriented business to have the same employees for that length of time. JDV must be doing something right. I know people have posted reviews that it is tired or run down but come on.... It's San Francisco! Have they looked around at the other hotels? Most of the buildings in the city are OLD! It's a part of our great California history that is why we go there. It has always been very clean and well kept whenever we have been there. We look forward to our next trip to Kabuki, Japantown and the Fillmore district.

Room Tip: I like the rooms facing the valet parking lot even though you share a balcony they have the best vie...

I rarely get to stay in a hotel that isn't a same-wherever-you-go business chain. I looked for a hotel with a little character and was excited for the upcoming stay at hotel kabuki. The hotel was lovely, but did not meet my (perhaps over inflated) expectations - mainly because the room was a little worn and felt like a japanese-style had been placed on top of what had been originally designed as a comfort inn. The room was clean, the staff were helpful, the soaking tub was amazing, the bed was INCREDIBLY comfortable. It was in a corner king: the view was lame, the positioning of the tv made it difficult to watch from bed without some rearranging, the chaise lounge that looked so good in the picture didn't have a little table beside it which made it odd for book, drink, or anything else. I had to call housekeeping to request the bathrobes that I read in my hotel information book would cost a lot of money if they weren't there when I checked out. I am also not a fan of the common practice of upscale hotels to put out a lot of water and food for you that costs a huge amount of money. If you're going to put out $5 snacks, they should be more tempting than doritos and snickers. I don't want to see this packaging in my home let alone in a hotel I am paying a lot to stay in.

Still, 4 stars because that tub and that bed were awesome.

We came into SF on a Monday to see a favorite band at the Filmore. The Kabuki is one of the closest hotels and I like the JDV brand, so I chose this hotel for our special night. The front desk folks were kind and helpful, we were told we were upgraded to a corner king room. The views were lovely. As was mentioned before the hotel needs a remodel, at least my room needed some serious updating, I saw no other rooms. The bedding and bathroom were lovely, the soaking tub... super relaxing. But obvious stains on the chaise, a broken phone (only worked using speaker), furniture chipped and worn as were the bathroom fixtures (soap holder, etc). The bathroom has a couple strange steps and tripping hazards as you entered the WC area, or stepped out of the shower area, strange design, and unexpected, raised thresholds. The bed was comfy, good quality linens and the iPod docking alarm clock was great to have there, and a large nice TV. Look for the ice bucket in your closet.... not where I expected it. The front door slams into the closet door, a very tight entry design. One robe was hanging when we arrived, also with a stain, we called for a second robe (using speaker phone) and it was delivered promptly. Room service in the morning was perfect, we had a huge yummy breakfast. All in all the service was excellent but my room was lack luster, dated, and not in good shape. The sliding panels instead of curtains are very nice, allowing the option to allow light in without the window being open, however, the solid panels do not close entirely, so my beautiful view and all the brightness in the morning was not easy to block out when trying to sleep after a night of rock and roll. Monday, Monday, not a good day to eat at the Kabuki. The hotel lounge and all room service is closed on Monday, as are most of the food service restaurants in Japantown. We were able to get breakfast on Tuesday morning, but no dinner or anything else upon arrival, thank goodness for the pretzels in the mini-bar. The Hotel Kabuki would do well to at least offer a limited room service menu, or give a list of eateries that are open when guests arrive, some that are in walking distance or provide delivery. That was totally unexpected and I've never been at a hotel that had a restaurant that was closed for a full day for the entire day. Pluses: service, parking, proximity to the Fillmore, bathroom shower/ soaking tub, bedding, views. Minuses: out-dated decor, no way to keep the light out, items that were stained and/or needed repair, odd layout / set-up of room, no food available on Monday. I want to go back there again, please Kabuki, start the remodeling now before we go back tot he Fillmore for another great show!

Room Tip: View the room first.

We live just forty-five minutes from San Francisco but love going to the City for a night out and a city walk or two. Hotel Kabuki is our go to hotel. It is the best value we have found (except during sold out times when all SF hotels are outrageously expensive). It has comfy beds and linen, good views of the Richmond District, deep soaking tubs, and a very friendly staff. It is in the heart of Japantown, close to the new Fillmore Jazz district, and a reasonable walk or very short car or cab ride to everything else. We've stayed at lots of hotels in the City. The Kabuki is not the Fairmont or the Palace. But it costs half as much (or less some nights) and has its owns charms that the big hotels don't (e.g. one of the best Japanese restaurants we've been to is right out the side door, and reasonably priced).

Room Tip: We last stayed in room 1603. This overlooks the Peace Plaza closer to Post Street. You can hear hu...

I have stayed at this hotel for a couple of meetings. The staff is wonderful. Everyone is very helpful. The rooms are good sized but a bit worn. It may be time for a remodel. I have always been placed in a Japanese style room and find it enjoyable. I'll be back for the meeting next year here.
