If you're reading this, you value other travelers' opinions and experiences when deciding what to do, where to go, where to stay etc. Union Street Inn in Cow Hollow is the perfect home base for a short weekend stay or extended visit. The reviews here are consistently similar because the service is exemplary. (In fact, Gardengirl407's review is so similar to our experience, I'd say, please see hers!). With that, it was gloriously relaxing to sit in the garden in the late afternoon, watch the fog roll in, and listen to the tug boats in the bay. We were always well attended and perfectly left alone at the same time. Do yourself a favor, get off the beaten path, explore the neighborhood, spend some time absorbing this fantastic city. And after you've climbed up, down and around, Union Street Inn is a welcoming place to come home to.

We just returned from San Francisco and our fabulous stay at the Union Street Inn. We enjoyed our wonderful 8-night stay as our "base-of-operations" - our "home away from home" - to take in 7 incredible America's Cup Defense Races......and much more!!

Our hosts were much more than staff; they became true friends during this time......friendly, courteous, generous and real down-to-earth people. The Inn is an old Victorian home.....cozy, wonderfully laid out and filled with antiques and quality furnishings; taking the delicious & generous breakfasts in the main Keeping Room, or alternatively, on the sunny patio surrounded by lush gardens, was heavenly.

The Inn is conveniently located in the heart of Cow Hollow, in the Marina District, and a gentle sloping walk down to the Marina Green waterfront is perfect for folks like my wife who has had a knee-trplacement. Not only are there numerous first-class shops [flowers, pastries, coffee] in this unique & special neighbourhood, there are many wonderful top-notch restaurants on the Street, to which we can definitely attest!!

We also quickly learned to use the convenient & inexpensive bus system, a number of them which run right along Union Street......just awesome convenience and access to all of the other treasures which "The City By The Bay' has to offer.

To sum up, the Inn is synergetically wonderful.....greater than the sum of its parts!!

Room Tip: Just go to their lovely web page and view the photos of each of the available Rooms!!

This was our first visit to San Francisco & Union Street Inn and we fell in love with both! Kit’s breakfast is fabulous and David knows every restaurant within walking distance (and there are many to choose from!). The location is great, with public transportation just steps from the front door. We stayed in The Holly which was quiet, comfortable, & the Jacuzzi bath was wonderful after a day of walking the hills of San Francisco. We highly recommend Union Street Inn.

My husband and I visited San Francisco for the first time and had a fantastic vacation - which we give much credit to the Union Street Inn! Before we even arrived, we were given very helpful information about the best way to get there and get around while in San Francisco. We were treated to wine, cheese and snacks in the afternoon/evening, and the most wonderful breakfast by Kit each morning! We stayed in the New Yorker and also English Garden - which we would choose again. English Garden has it's own french doors out to the deck and lush garden, and because it faces the garden there is no street noise. Both Kit and David were so helpful in booking our fantastic Napa tour - on GreenTours - which came right to the door to pick us up and drop us off! as well as recommending wonderful places to dine. The location is perfect for walking to wharf and it is right on a busline for longer distances. If you want to wake up to delicious coffee, and good conversation, drink wine and eat yummy cookies before bed, and sleep in really soft sheets, and perhaps even make a new friend or two- try the Union Street Inn. I truly hope to visit again soon. Surely we will not stay anywhere else when visitin SF.

Room Tip: Rooms that face the garden have less street noise...although not too bad with drapes and shades pull...

This was our third visit to San Francisco and the Union Street Inn. This time we decided to splash out and stay five nights in the Carriage House which is on its own at the end of the wonderful garden and wow was it worth it! The peace and tranquillity is unbelievable you would never believe you were staying in the middle of the city.

The Inn team are the most wonderful you could ever want to meet. We were welcomed by David who made sure we were settled in and led us to kitchen and made us a cup of tea which was just what we wanted after our long flight. The following morning we experienced one of Kit’s fabulous breakfasts which we ate in the garden whilst chatting to other guests.

We spent our days travelling around using the bus which stops right outside coming back in the afternoon to enjoy the complimentary wine and cheese again chatting to other guests. Local restaurants are just a few minutes’ walk away our favourite being the Balboa Café. Unfortunately we could not resist the cream puffs from Pacific Puffs just a few doors down, they are to die for!

Our stay here was just magical, Jane David and Kit are just the perfect hosts (not to forget Herb) and the Union Street Inn is the ‘must stay’ place in SF.

We were looked after so well at the Union Street Inn that we didn't want to leave! We stayed here for 3 nights in the English Garden room as part of our road trip that we were embarking on for our honeymoon. All the members of staff were really friendly and very helpful when asked questions. The breakfasts were wonderful and the daily wine and cheese late afternoon was a lovely touch. Not to mention the constant supply of hot drinks throughout the day that was also very much needed at times after a long day of sightseeing.

We hope to be back in the future :-)

My husband and I stayed at the Union Street Inn during our recent, first visit to San Francisco. It was a wonderful choice! We had the pleasure of meeting David and Kit who provided excellent suggestions for sightseeing and eating. Kit's breakfasts and baked goods were delicious! We stayed in two different rooms over our three night stay and very much enjoyed both rooms. The back garden is lush and peaceful. If other guests are around there is a great opportunity to share vacation tips. The location on Union Street was ideal, allowing us to feel both part of the lovely neighborhood and still on vacation. There are many reasonably priced restaurants with high quality food within easy walking distance including the French restaurant next door. In fact, unbeknown to us, upon David's recommendation to treat his guests well, the owner of the French restaurant provided a complimentary crepe dessert to us! The location allows for easy access to the many wonderful things to do in this city. I highly recommend a stay at this special Inn!
