This was such a lovley place, The employees are very friendly and very helpfull. It was such a beautiful room and a big change to the large hotels. We have been to San Francisco 3 times in the kast year and this was the best place for us . Definately take advantage of the great breakfast & the wine and tasty snaks in the afternoon. Also really centrally located . Thanks for A great time

We met two other couples for an extended weekend and everything was perfect. The staff were so helpful and friendly, and you felt like they really cared. The rooms were clean and homey. Never would have expected such a comfortable environment in such an urban setting. Fireplace made it even cozier. The lower level common area offered a great setting to participate in the morning breakfast and evening wine/cheese gatherings...especially since we needed the comfortable space to just unwind with friends. After long days of walking through San Fran, it was a welcome oasis. Great location near public transportation and within close walking distance of cable car (1 1/2 blocks), Chinatown (3 blocks) and down to the fabulous outdoor market. Close to some fabulous restaurants...listen to th staff's recommendations! And the price was unbelieveable for this city...was worried that the price would reflect a lesser quality, but they have really exceeded our expectations. We will be back and recommend to others!

I recently spent several days at this wonderful hotel/B&B. The staff made a big effort to accommodate my family's requests about finding off the beaten path things to do.
We felt comfortable and safe.
The breakfast buffet and evening appetizers were tasty and plentiful.
The location is great as well. It is a short stroll to Chinatown and Union Square. The rest of San Francisco could easily be reached by convenient, efficient, public transportation.
It is a good value with a good location.

We stayed at the White Swan Inn for nine nights in November 2008. Our room was spacious and very cheerful as flowers greeted our arrival. The small but efficient elevator was reminiscent of hotels through out Europe and added great charm. Breakfast was an occasion to be enjoyed. Every item was delicious from the fresh prepared quiche, sausage, bacon, potatoes and fresh fruit. The rolls and crossiants were always fresh and plentiful. An assortment of dry cereal and cooked cereal was available as was orange and cranberry juice. The atmosphere was friendly and guests enjoyed visiting with each other. The homemade cookies that were always available in the lobby were an added treat. But, the best for last. The evening wine and Hors d'Oeuvres were excellent and provided a wonderful opportunity to meet and fellowship with fellow travelers. Friendships we made include people from London, Sweden, Australia, Washington DC, New York and on and on. The staff added to a wonderful experience and we would highly recommend staying at the White Swan Inn.

Have stayed in a number of hotels recommended by Tripadvisor.com, but this just did not live up to the reviews. Given Room 25 on the ground floor, very dark as it overlooked walls, decoration very drab and tired, paint peeling, definitely did not look like the pictures on the website. Commented to the front desk the next evening and was immediately upgraded to Room 57. As I was leaving for dinner I packed my bags and was advised everything would be moved by the time I returned and a complimentary bottle of champagne would be provided. On my return around 22:00 nothing had been moved. Went to front desk and moved myself with assistance from front desk staff. No champagne but this was quickly rectified. Very disappointing experience. Room 57 was lovely, did look like the pictures on the website and was very comfortable. Breakfasts excellent. Breakfast room lovely.

My wife and I stayed at the Inn for four nights in January, 2009. The White Swan is centrally located in the city and quite charming with large, cheery rooms with flowery wallpaper. The beds are large and comfortable. It has an early 20th century elevator that is a delight to use. A dining area (breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese) and adjacent library are handsomely decorated. The service is most friendly and efficient.

But, as with most hotels, there are some negatives. The bathrooms are small and stark. The TV's are aged and the cable system attached can be a frustrating nightmare to use. There are no temperature controls in the rooms and opening the windows only increases the noise volume coming from the neighborhood.

This 26 room, former English bric-a-brac boarding house is desolately located a few blocks from Union Square (7 blocks from BART). The rooms have great beds with comfortable mattresses and fireplaces. The rooms are decorated with books and have a mini-refrig with complimentary water and soft drinks.
The staff (Andy & Kevin) are friendly and helpful.
There is hot apple cider and cookies (available all day!) in the reception.
There is 5-6:30 complimentary wine (Fetzer) chardonnay and cab with wonderful snacks (reat artichoke dip, crudités, bundt cake).
Buffet breakfast is in charming area with a fire place. There are nice pastries, croissants, scones, French brioche toast, sausage patties, quiche, fresh fruit, yogurt, and oatmeal.
