My trip was a combination of business and leisure, this is why I found that this hotel was a perfect fit. As soon as I walked in I was pleasantly surprised with the warm and inviting lobby. The employees at the front desk were always helpful and friendly. The room was very comfortable and clean.
The best part was the location, right across from were my seminar took place and just a block away from Union Square.
The only complaint I might have is that the hotel does not have air conditioning and if you go in a warm spell like I did, the rooms do not have a comfortable temperature during the day.
I am very pleased with my stay and would recommend this hotel anytime!!!

I had a wonderfull stay at the Kensington with my friends for a couple of days. The staff is helpfull, the rooms are great, the beds are very nice and the location is great! It's just next to Union Square which is the centre of the city.

The hotel is one block from Union Square and cable car, restaurants and shopping! We walked everywhere and rode the cable car to Fisherman's Wharf and just for fun a few times. The hotel is very well kept, rooms and bathrooms are very clean (my main concern when booking hotels). Lots of historic charm in lobby and rooms with marble in bathrooms, glass shower doors, big closet and complimentary sherry after 4:00pm in the lobby! So relaxing after a busy day. Windows open for cool air and there is a ceiling fan to keep the room airy on warm days. With windows open, you will hear delivery/garbage trucks very early in the morning. Can't escpae that in the city. Flat screen on wall. The ice machine on our floor (6) broke and we had to go the 12th floor for ice. Nice white, clean linens on the bed which was very comfortable...great sleeping. Would recommend to anyone. Front desk staff was always very cordial and helpful for directions, restaurants, etc.

The location of this hotel is excellent. 5 mins walk to the Bart Station, 1 minute to the trolley. Lots of beautiful shops and restaurants nearby.

The hotel was having building work so we didn't get to see the full exterior although the lobby was pleasant. Quite traditional in style.

First impressions of the room were very good - A good size, well furnished with a stunning blend of classic modern and traditional furniture & decor. Small but sufficient sized bathroom. All very clean & comfortable.

There was a note in the room advising us to keep the window closed during our stay as there was building work being undertaken throughout the hotel. There was no air-con but a fan above the bed which we sometimes struggled to use without the light being on so this was a bit problematic at times & we did get very hot.

Unfortunately the note failed to add that we should not open our curtains either as there would be workmen standing 2 feet away on the other side of the window on the ledge which I can assure you was a huge shock on our first morning. I really didn't feel that it was acceptable to offer this room to guests where there wouldn't be any natural light (I would run to the window in the hall in my pjs to check the weather!) and we could hear every conversation by the builders very clearly.

In hindsight, we should have requested another room/complained but we were so exhausted after a flight from the UK that we were just happy to have a comfy bed and wanted to relax but I guess that's the British in us!

I would definitely considor this hotel again as overall we had a great stay but I would probably check that the building work had finished first.

We stayed here for three nights at the beginning of a Californian driving trip, and were truly sad to leave. The hotel was in an excellent location, right next to Union square, and as we had requested a quiet room, we were placed right on the top floor facing the back (which incidentally is where the view is...). We arrived absolutely shattered from 12 hours of flying, and were delighted to find a bottle of wine complements of the management to celebrate our engagement.

The bed was one of the most comfortable of our trip, and led to a fantastic night's sleep, even with jet lag. The whole place was modern, but with quaint touches, and the reception area really must be seen to be fully appreciated! The staff were very helpful and pleasant, and seemed genuinely interested in making sure we were comfortable.

Don't worry about breakfast - the Honey Crepe and Creamery is just a block away, and is a wonderful introduction to what the rest of the world seems to think America eats for breakfast (eg, mountains of pancakes and powdered sugar over everything).

Would definitely recommend a stay here, just don't make the same mistake I did, and only find out about the morning coffee service (a station on every other floor) on the last day!
