The Kensington Park Hotel
Ranked #74 of 230 Hotels in San Francisco
Reviewed April 28, 2013

We stayed at The Kensington Park Hotel on the third leg of our U.S trip.

We were originally given a room on the ground floor to the front of the hotel, but we were offered an upgraded room for $20 per night which we were glad we did.

Our room was to the rear of the hotel and had a lovely view of San Francisco's skyline and lovely and quiet. The room was spacious and immaculately clean, with a very comfortable double bed which was the best night's sleep we'd had in ages plus there was a IPod dock alarm clock which was a nice added feature.

The room also had complimentary tea/coffee and free WiFi which is rare in the U.S.

The bathroom was spotlessly clean with plenty of fresh towels and complimentary toiletries.

The staff were brilliant and a credit to the hotel, they were very polite, helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. Bob the concierge was very knowledgeable and jovial. My partner's luggage was delayed in Las Vegas and the staff were so helpful and allowed us to use their telephone, they even helped chase it with Virgin Airlines and took receipt of it when it arrived.

There was also free tea and sherry in the afternoons, which was a bit odd but a nice touch all the same (not really a sherry drinker). The horse statue in the lobby is something to behold and a great photo opportunity.

The hotel is ideally situated near Union Square with Powell Street just around the corner so you can catch the cable car quickly and easily.

I highly recommend The Kensington Park Hotel. The staff, hotel and location are amazing and I cannot understand the 3 star rating on Trip Advisor; I've stayed in 4 star hotels that weren't a patch on the KPH.

KPH is excellent value for money, what more can you ask for.

Room Tip: Ask for a room to the rear of the hotel for a good nights sleep.

The hotel was a little old, the rooms were clean and confy. But the furniture was old. The service was ok, the room delayed to be ready. So I had go lunch first. It was a bummer for me, because I needed a shower asap after 12 hours of flight.

I think the hotel, was a top hotel years ago. So you can see that everything is nice, but need a renovation to be on teh top charts. I thought it was a a little too pricey for what it is.

The location is good near union square, I also stayed at the Palomar Hotel, which have the best location, near the mall and a lot of restaurants and shops.

Overall the hotel was not bad. I would recommend if you dont mind being in a 3 stars hotel. The room was clean and I do not have any problem.

Dear Nichole S,

Thank you for posting a review on Trip Advisor about your recent stay at Kensington Park Hotel. I am so sorry that your room was not ready when you arrived at the Hotel. The guaranteed check in time is after 3pm; however we always do our best to accommodate early check-ins if a room is available. I am very disappointed that we have not met your expectations. Perhaps one of our sister properties, Hotel DIVA, would be more suitable for your needs. Thank you again for staying with us and I hope that you will give Personality Hotels another chance during your next visit to San Francisco.

Best regards,

My friend and I stayed at Kensington Park Hotel on April 20 & 21. It is a boutique hotel a half block from the square. It is also across the street from the Westin Hotel. This is a cute little hotel. We stayed on the 9th floor and was not bothered by noises. The room was clean with very, very comfortable beds. They have two pillows on your bed with one being firm and one pillow soft for your comfort. There is a one cup coffee maker in the room but on the 9th and 11th floor in the hall they have coffee and orange juice. They have a tea hour from 4:00-6:00 pm but we were never there for that. They also have a nice thing of water with fruit in it in the hall by the registration desk which is nice and refreshing. The cable cars and Bart train station are only about 3 blocks away.

Really lovely character hotel, located just off Union Square. Very welcoming and helpful staff. Tea, sherry and piano in the foyer late afternoon. Good sized rooms. Comfortable beds. Bonus is that it is in the same building as a theatre and so you can also see a very well performed play.

Great location near union square. Hotel was very clean and comfortable. Older place so would not have full amenities of some newer hotels, but no issues - good value and would go back. Staff was very friendly as well.

Stayed here last year on business. 1st time to San Fran. Not much free time so this hotel was excellent with loads right outside; union sq, the main shopping area, Powell cable car and the financial district a 10 minute or do walk away. Bed was really comfy and will definitely return with my family and stay at this great hotel.

What a find! Great location, great customer service and nice spacious room. Bedding and furnishings were all comfortable and tastefully done. The bathroom was a little small, but it was clean. There is no AC but SF rarely gets warm enough for more than a fan.

With that being said, the hotel's exterior is being renovated so be sure to ask for a room higher up. We had a room on the 10th floor and it was very quiet.
