Staff at this hotel get my gold star of approval, service I have not seen in years, or ever! The hotel is charming, our room so comfortable it felt like home. Bedding, pillows, a dream. I saw some reviews about the bath fixtures needing replacement but I did not see that. This hotel is old world charm with heavy brass faucets that may have a slight patina, this is not a negative, unless you prefer standard hotel chrome. Lemon ice water and hot tea in the lobby at all times. Each floor has its own coffee and orange juice station, a real bonus to step outside the door for this in the morning instead of going to the lobby. There is a good -but expensive restaurant next door. There is an adjoining door to the restaurant and worth going for at least the 4-7. Many places to eat and drink within a block of the hotel, including Starbucks and a local Cafe with yummy fresh fruit and breakfast food. We mentioned to staff at the Kennsington that it was our anniversary, they brought us a bottle of wine, along with a personal card. This really made our trip feel special. Staff has lots of tips on what to do and see, never seemed too busy to take to great us and help with any questions. If you prefer a large hotel modern hotel as many do, this would not be for you. We love the old word charm and service.

The staff are very friendly & helpful.
The location is great for down town San Francisco.
The rooms are furnished in an old traditional way & the furnishings are fine, as is the room size.
However, with no restuarant in the hotel & no mini bar in the room they could at least add a complimentary bottle of drinking water each day!
They also need to add safe deposit boxes.
The windows are very old & leaky so street noise can be bad.
And finally, the valet service needs to be faster.
A few little improvements would turn this from average to great.

Room Tip: High floor & not facing the street.

The Kensington Park is located in an old building which is well preserved and well maintained. The rooms are pretty large and equipped with good quality fittings and a comfortable bed. The views however leave a little to be desired; purely looking out over the scruffy roofs of other buildings.

The hotel is located just off Union Square and is very handy for the cable car so it's easy to move around using public transport. It's also very handy for numerous eaters if you don't want to travel far. It's also pretty close to Chinatown which you can walk through to get down to the harbour area and the piers.

Great hotel and area - pity about the views.

This hotel is very old, but very well-maintained. The rooms are clean, beds are very comfortable, bathrooms have been renovated and showers are nice. Great location, half a block from Union Square. Can't beat the location. prices are reasonable for this area. Service is excellent. We stayed here for 6 days and had a great experience. only negative is no exercise room, but you get complimentary use of a small exercise area in a hotel about a block away. This exercise room is tiny with minimal equipment. There is a Club One (full gym with lap pool) a block away for $20 a day.

other than the exercise room, or lack thereof, this is a very nice hotel. Would definitely stay here again when visiting San Fran. overall great value

The Kensington Park Hotel is in a perfect central location in San Francisco - we had 4 nights here before picking up a hire car and embarking on a bit of a roadtrip of Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Death Valley and Grand Canyon.

The rooms weren't particularly large but were more than big enough for our requirements and had a lovely bathroom. The hotel has lots of character and charm and has a very cosy feel.

Staff were helpful and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if I returned to San Francisco.
