Adelaide Hostel

You couldn't ask for a better budget accommodation option in a major American city. For the price of a hostel, you get hotel quality and service. For under $100, we got two beds, a balcony (or rather, fire escape) overlooking downtown San Francisco, a clean bathroom, free (and delicious) breakfast, a common area for cooking and extremely helpful staff. Don't expect any frills, but do be reassured that your stay will be clean and comfortable.

The front desk clerks are always ready to recommend a restaurant, attraction, shop or bar and the free breakfast includes all sorts of different cereals, fruits, breads, spreads and coffee/tea. You're centrally located and close to all sorts of public transit. Rooms are made up daily with fresh towels. You also get a fridge in the room, which is handy if you're bringing snacks to tide you over between meals. The guests varied - everybody from young backpackers to older couples. Noise was never an issue.

Book here! You really can't go wrong for the price. Excellent value for your dollar.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the street.

There is a lot to love about the Adelaide. First off, it is dirt cheap. On top of that the common areas are huge and well maintained. They encourage social interaction and fun, but also work very hard to keep noise and partying to a minimum. There are a ton of bathrooms and shower, all of which are private and in their own room. The dorms are clean and each bunk is equipped with a shelf, outlets for charging, a reading lamp, and a black curtain for privacy. It's a good international crowd here, nothing too crazy at night.

The location is central, but the area is slightly dodgy. If you are traveling by yourself be warned. Nothing too too scary, just a lot of homeless and people that like to yell, especially at night. Besides that this place is great for a short stay in SF.

Centrally located, staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms and shared toilets were very clean.

The owner and reception crew were very friendly and accommodating. They offered to call taxis, arrange rides, store luggage-all at no charge. I had a flight out of san francisco in the late evening-but they encouraged me to hang out and continue to use all the common areas after check-out. This was great, not just having the option but having them really encourage it.

They also stored luggage for several others I was traveling with-for over a week-at no charge.

Great service, nice facilities and reasonably priced for a hostel in the city-especially given the centralized location.

Thank you! We're so glad you enjoyed your Adelaide experience. The owner and staff do work around the clock to make sure everyone has the best stay possible. We want the hostel to feel like a home base in San Francisco for our guests, so we're happy to help people out by storing luggage and offering our common areas and computers to use. Hope to see you again the next time you are in the Bay Area!

I booked a private room for 5 nights but on arrival was told I was located in the Dakota hotel/hostel 1 block down the road.. a bit annoying since that wasn't listed on the website but I went with it. NOT a fan of the dakota at all; front desk staff were quite rude and inattentive .. took a few minutes of me standing at the front desk before the felt like acknowledging me. Room smelled horrible like smoke (even though its non smoking) and bedding looked like it was from 50 years ago! I honestly was considering changing to another hotel and taking the money hit.

Then I took my chances and asked to change to the Adelaide at the front desk and a lovely lady did so very nicely at 8pm at night. NOW - huge double double private, clean, nice linens, nice bathroom and no smells whatsoever.
Huge kitchen and washing machine/dryer, breakfast is a carb delight but its free and location is super close to downtown. A tad noisy on the main floor where I stayed but I always got a good nights sleep and was happy to be in the Adelaide so I'm not complaining.
Would stay again.

I spent a wonderful 3 weeks at the Adelaide hostel and enjoyed my stay so much I even returned for a second visit. PJ and his friendly staff are happy to help with any requests and the hostel's central location nestled in a little alleyway off the main drag are as much as you could ever hope for.

Free breakfasts are pretty good and the bunks in most rooms are spacious and private.

I'd happily recommend the hostel to any friends or family visiting SF in the future.

Room Tip: Golden Gates room in the basement is well placed for kitchen and veranda plus its a little cooler wh...

The value for money is normal, I paid about 28 dollars per night on average including taxes. Breakfast is plentiful, coffee or tea, bagels, cream cheese, jam, a small bowl of fresh fruit. The kitchen is well equipped, although I recommend extending the time to cook at night. The rooms are comfortable, well distributed, clean sheets. No towels supplied, changed my original room because was in repair during that week. Front desk staff is usually attentive, not so the night staff. It has an atm machine in the main room, comfortable armchairs and tables, three desktop computers that work well without virus. If I return to San Francisco, it's probably me staying in this hostel again. Wifi service works very well overall including rooms.

The style inside really fits in with what you'd expect of San Fran - and in an awesome historical lane too. Location was incredible - we walked almost everywhere, plus it was close to F-train, buses, cable cars and metro. Bars/restaurants etc all nearby too.
Staff were incredibly friendly and their daily breakfast is delicious and extremely generous!
Activities planned are great, especially the Wild SF walking tour!! But also nighttime activities - great for those wanting to meet people and on a budget.
Thanks guys :)
