very fresh, innovative menu. we had so many good plates to choose from that it wasn't easy to narrow down. we did not have to wait too long for such an excellent meal it was worth it. they worked hard to accommodate us when we called while they were having a busy night. nice people, great food.

I ate here last week with a group of coworkers. The food was excellent. They had a great selection of vegetarian dishes and everyone loved what they ordered. I will definitely return!

The food here was delicious, but pricey. I haven't tried other Indian restaurants in San Francisco, but compared to similar quality where I am from in St Louis, this place was definitely overpriced.

I enjoyed a meal at Amber last night - chosen based upon other good reviews. Unfortunately, dining alone, I could only taste a few appetizers and entrees. The atmosphere is upscale modern. The samosas were flavorful and the pastry crisp and thin-skinned. I would have liked more aggressively spiced tamarind and cilantro chutneys. The fried spinach appetizer is unique - and luckily- well executed so as to not be overly greasy despite being deep fired. The eggplant main course was very satisfying. The eggplants were well flavored and the tomato sauce had excellent garam masala flavoring and I think sliced almonds for texture. The saag paneer was one of the best I have tasted lately - the spinach silky smooth, well-spiced, and filled with chunks of paneer. I was intrigued by the 32 hr dal - but disappointed upon tasting it. Again, it could have been dressed up with some cumin oil drizzled on top. The potato and pea stuffed nan was well cooked and flavorful - but not a blockbuster. Overall, the food exceeded expectations, and was a very pleasant surprise to my overall harried day. Upscale Indian always costs more than "ghetto" Indian, so I did NOT think the prices out of line.

This Is an upscale restaurant serving both modern and traditional Indian cuisine with a number of dishes that are not often seen, including a number of vegetarian offerings. It is near Yerba Buena center but is not a touristy restaurant. It is on three levels with several different dining areas and a bar. It is very popular with locals and does get quite crowded. We had the butter chicken, a signature dish with creamy tomato sauce. and the Kashmiri Roganjosh, stewed Colorado lamb with dry ginger and fennel. Both of these dishes were delicious. Service was professional and efficient. There is also a more interesting cocktail list and wine list than usually found at an Indian restaurant.
