Owner description: This electric neighborhood of 100,000 people is not to be missed, and it's not hard to find: listen for the clack of mahjongg tiles and nose out the salty spicy squid.

I believe this is the largest 'chinatown' outside of China. Lots of shopping and unique gifts to be bought. One of the more famous places to visit, right in downtown S.F.

We went to Chinatown to have early dinner before our show. Just after chinatown was little Italy. After we saw little Italy we wished we had just walked through chinatown and ate in little italy. Much nicer and quaint. Overall this is nice to walk through. But I suggest you keep walking and stick around longer in little Italy.

Chinatown is a must see and very uniquue. There are numerous shops and restaurants, with authentic food. It is near many bus lines and near the financial district, so relatively easy to get back to your hotels.

We spent our afternoon in Chinatown, walking aimlessly along the streets, finding little hidden gems, stumbling upon a tea tasting, and accidently lining up for the best egg custard tarts in SF! Chinatown is lots of fun to wander around. Golden Gate Bakery opens sporadically and has lines from opening to closing we just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Chinatown does have a part which is quite touristy, but if you keep walking up the streets and around the area, you will definately find the Asian community, and get a feel for the amazing way they have combined their culture with the west!

This would have to be the cleanest and most interesting China town in the USA. There is alot on offer here such and we were lucky enough to watch them make fortune cookies and tried authentic Chinese herbal tea. It has some beautiful buildings, shops and restaurants on offer and is a interesting place to explore for a few hours.
