Owner description: This electric neighborhood of 100,000 people is not to be missed, and it's not hard to find: listen for the clack of mahjongg tiles and nose out the salty spicy squid.

A colourful, lively part of San Francisco that is fun to explore for a couple of hours. The street leading up from the Chinatown gate has beautiful red lanterns hanging over the top & is lined with souvenir shops, bakeries & tea shops. A great place to buy reasonably priced souvenirs for friends & family back home.

I had been to Chinatown in San Francisco before, but I had strolled the streets on my own. Going on the Chinatown Alleyway Tour with Calvin and Brian made history come alive. These young men were very entertaining, and the tour was informative. I believe that these young people are passionate about their heritage, and I think they are proud of their community. The tour price was only $18. It was a wonderful experience for us!

What can you say about Chinatown... it's everything you would expect - loud, very urban, horrible parking, traffic, herb/tea shops, cheaply made touristy gifts - everything that makes it fun! Try to park around Jackson and Grant - center of the action. Be sure to visit the fortune cookie company off Ross Alley (a real alley for those of us used to urban environments - laundry and meat hanging from the fire escapes and all!). Side note - most places charge you for a bag if you buy something! Couldn't believe it! If you keep walking a little north you will run right into Little Italy.

We had a good time, didn't eat anything because we were sort of fearful on what we would be eating bur we walked the whole street and had a great time shopping. I would highly recommend seeing this area

We had a great time walking in and out of the shops and talking with shopkeepers about the Chinese made goods. Bought a really nice pair of handmade silk slippers. Lots of tea houses and restaurants to stop into, so go hungry!
