If you are in San Francisco, by all means, go visit Fisherman's Wharf. There is a lot to do, see, eat and drink there that can fascinate you for hours, perhaps days. It's a perfect place to see and do – cruises, bicycle tours, Segway tours, etc. Walking up and down the wharf, you'll encounter something for all interest, no matter what your age is. You can have all your meals, snacks and drinks there, along with food to take home with you. Fisherman's Wharf is definitely entertaining, filling and good for working off all of your indulgences.

Do yourself a favor and go to other neighborhoods, an other neighborhoods, to get a feel for the real SF, and not just the tourist locations that none of the locals ever go to.

The crab and fishing boats are the working heart of this area, along with the shops selling souveniers and stuff, and all the places to have a bit or more to eat. The fresh crab stands are wonderful, so evocative of an earlier time. Walk around, there's so much to see and do.

Loved the clam chowder and fish tacos! It's a really fun area to walk around and there's a lot of restaurants selling chowders and fish tacos.
There are souvenir shops nearby too.

...when places like this exemplified local color and had a real working atmosphere. That time has passed. If your idea of "local" is McDonald's and Joe's Crab Shack, here you go.
