Neighborhood: Mission District
Description: One of the early pioneers in San Francisco's popular Mission District neighborhood at Valencia Street and 23rd, Beretta has been a long-time industry favorite since opening in 2008. Dark, sexy and evocative, Beretta's restaurant and bar are where to enjoy inventive cocktails, thin crust pizzas, and contemporary Italian comfort food that is always fresh, organic and seasonal whenever possible, and sourced from local farmers. Adored by the San Francisco community and visitors to our city, we offer something for everyone, and carry many vegetarian and vegan options. Beretta is great for both intimate dining experiences and large group affairs, (our cozy downstairs room is perfect for groups of 6 or more), and we are open for dinner and late-night dining, 7 days a week, with brunch served on weekends.

Busy but worth the wait to eat authentic Italian. Solid service from people that care about food and the dining experience. They know the ingredients, the preparation and can speak intelligently about the menu. Sets them apart from other "trendy" places.

A little noisy, this is a masterpiece of creative flavors. We stopped in and sampled some appetizers (fried asparagus in caper aioli sauce and a truffle and barata cheese bruschetta both incredible). Then we had the French Toast which is a think toasted breach with a delicious berry sauce and the eggs and and bacon pizza which was incredible.

We finished off with a vanilla gelato with a cinnamon cookie, drizzled in olive oil and sprinkled with sea-salt. We had a bit of a wait for a table, but it was worth it! You can sit outside or in and they apparently have some great drinks and evening food.

We got the margherita pizza: the sauce was a little herb-heavy and there was slightly too much of it for me, but I loved the beautiful crust and super fresh ingredients. Also we got the crispy asparagus (cornmeal-crusted) with caper aioli and walnut bread with burrata, honey, and truffle oil. Delicious! Don't forget to try the homemade super-gingery soda too.

This may seem out of the way for visitors to SF, but it's worth the cab ride. Seriously fresh, farm-to-table appetizers, freshly made coal oven pizza and truly great drinks made with care... It does get crowded, but it's worth the wait and the servers and bartenders are friendly and know their stuff... I try to eat here every visit.

My wife and I were meeting one of our long time friends after numerous years of not seeing her. We came to this restaurant at her recommendation. The restaurant is located in a less busy area of San Francisco (great!!). The menu is very limited and seemed like a café menu versus a restaurant. My wife had the squid ink risotto, our friend had the saffron risotto, and I had their steak. The risotto was ok, but not as tasty as expected. The steak was well prepared on a bed of broccoli and had a pretty good taste. We also had dungenes crab balls (similar to crab cakes) that tasted awesome! Overall, it was a nice experience, but not impressed.
