Our driver was this hilarious Asian man who yelled out each stop. The buss was full of tourists and locals alike so it made for a fun trip

We had free MUNI (Local SF bus-streetcar-cable car lines) passes so decided to take in Pier 39. Hopped on the streetcar at the Ferry Bldg. I've lived in SF all my life and travelled many streetcars, but never had a driver like this one! He was hillarious. Our ride started with the normal things a driver would do or say (upcoming stops, local attractions, etc). The streetcar was fairly full, being a holiday and mid morning. We were standing near the front so watched as the driver was talking to a passenger and casually said "do you have a driver's license?", "yes", "Do you want to drive the streetcar?", "OK". At which point the driver got up and announced to the crowd "I'm going to take a break and this young lady here is going to drive" and proceeded to get off the car. She started to get into the seat and he returned and joked some more. "Oh , got rid of one passenger back there, he thought I'd do this!" The driver got to the next stop and a passenger had a skateboard. He asked "Want to trade? I'll let you drive the car if I can ride your skateboard". "Sure". And he pretended to get off again. Of course no one else drove the streetcar but it was hillarious. I'm sure this driver was cutting up long before we got on. A few hours later we reboarded back to the Ferry building but the driver this time was just driving and hardly said a word. So you never know what kind of character you will get on a bus. Usually it is the passengers that are the characters!

There is nothing touristy or even interesting with this street car. Only the exterior might be called somewhat different.
If you are trying to reach to Fisherman's Wharf from Market street this is an easy and cheap option with interesting views.
If your intention is to ride on a cable car only and feel what it is, F-Market line is the wrong choice.
It is not a cable car, but a street car and you may be disappointed.

Not the quickest but very very cool. Authentic trams (streetcars) from all over the world. Rattling along more majestic than anything else on the streets. Think of the moments and the places those trams have been in the past. Who could have ridden them in those foreign cities and what sights were seen? Much more interesting than the new trams or trolleys found around the world. Use your MUNI card which can even be bought ahead of time an shipped to your home. So sit back and enjoy. Went several times along the Embarcado (sp?) from the ferry building to fishermans wharf. The Milan trams look the coolest and are at once recognizably Italian. However I am from the uk so had a soft spot for the blackpool trams as I've actually ridden them in blackpool. Enjoy.

The vintage street cars are nice and worth a ride but not an efficient way to get around the city. Often they very overcrowded with tourists.
