“An oasis in the City”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2012

Stow Lake used to be one of my favorite places in SF, and then it really got a little seedy around the boathouse area... but now under a new concession, the Boathouse is clean and inviting and has new boats and some new food items. The coffee - believe it or not - is great. We didn't try the food.

We walked around the island and took in the pagoda, waterfall, and the beauty of the wooded areas, and then rented a paddle boat - $19/hour - and slowly paddled our way around the lake, enjoying the ducks and turtles and the sheer peace of the place. It was a weekday, so we were nearly the only ones on the water... if you're going at a busy time there may be a wait for a boat.

“Nice hike and gorgeous views!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2012

We chose to visit Stow Lake as one of our Golden Gate Park adventures. This lake surrounds Strawberry Hill. For families with children, there are pedal boats and rowboats for rent, plenty of ducks and birds to feed, and an electrically-pumped waterfall. There are 2 different bridges where you can walk over the water to start the jaunt up Strawberry Hill. On the way up you see beautiful redwoods; once on top you can see a great view of the west part of San Francisco. This is a fun hike and great outdoors activity!

A lovely way to spend an hour in gg park. $19 for 60 minutes--see the Chinese Pagoda and man made waterfalls and bridges. Ducks sea gulls etc. Just good old fashioned fun.

“fun paddle boats”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2010

Our family of four rented a paddle boat this past week. It is not as easy as you would think! We opted to rent just one boat for the four of us because it was $20 per boat per hour. Having two adults and two teenagers in one boat did make it harder to paddle, but you could certainly rent two boats and have an easier time paddling. We did make it all the way around in under an hour and switched up paddlers several times! Fun thing to do in a beautiful park.
