Want some great history on the Cable Cars? This is the place. After you leave here take a nice stroll down to Fisherman's Wharf or catch the Cable car stop just a block away.

It is definitely worth the trip to see the amazing engineering. It gives you a sense of the marvel that is the cable car system. I had no idea how they worked and have a new found respect for them. Makes riding them more fun too. It really is just a quick trip though we stayed around 20 min and this was enough for us.

See this cool and FREE museum right before you ride the cable cars. It will make your ride much more interesting. It was fun to see how the cars operate, where the cables are repaired, and the history of the cars. We had a bit of trouble finding the museum, at 1201 Mason Street, until we used Google Maps to guide us. It is at the intersection of Mason and Washington Streets. Definitely a must-see if you are interested in the famous San Francisco cable cars.

The cable car museum is free, and lets you know how the cable car system works, and you can see the cables being pulled around the city. Worth a stop to see how it all works

The museum tells all about the history of the cable cars and how they were saved from dismantling in favor of buses. It is also the site for the cables and the machinery that keeps them and the cable cars running. Very cool.
