“Its a park with different ethnicities”
Reviewed December 4, 2011

This is a great park with no graffiti around at all and if there were some its out the next day. Depending on what time of day you get here you will see elders doing tail chi early in morning to people grabbing a quick bite from nearby eateries to go. Dogs can get along with other dogs here also. Overall its a nice place to get fresh air or to get some sun exposure.

“Washington Square...We'll meet you there!”
Reviewed August 17, 2011

There's not much to do in Washington Square Park itself but sit on a bench and enjoy the day, watch the dogs run around and play. Maybe catch a Jazz trio playing a tune while you relax, but that's the joy of it! It's just a nice little park in the heart of North Beach pretty much surrounded by Little Italy. There's a huge old Catholic Church on one side, called Saints Peter and Paul Church where Joe Dimaggio and Marilyn Monroe were photographed following their nuptuals (even though they weren't technically married there). The park boasts a statue of Benjamin Franklin instead of George Washiington (go figure) and a nice playground for the kids. Anyway, walk there, and arrive hungry because you're going to want to eat at one of the many Italian eateries when you leave! Washington Square Park is over 160 years old, the statute of Benjamin Franklin was erected in 1904.

“relax, eat, play!”
Reviewed August 19, 2007

I really dig Washington Square. It is nestled in the North Beach section of SF and is great for a litte picnic with your sweetie, a relaxing afternoon to read a book or to toss around the pigskin. I I highly suggest picking up some insanely delicious Italian pastries and coffee to snack on while lounging on the grass. My choice is Mara's italian Pastries on Columbus.

If you are a people watcher, trust there is much to see!
