Try different points to take photos. From SFO, from Sausalito... less obvious but great place to see and take pictures is from China Beach park, taking the Camino del mar

How could you possible consider going to San Francisco, and not go see the Golden Gate Bridge? You can't. It symbolizes the city, and for a piece of architecture, spanning the hills on both sides of the Bay, it is just a beautiful place to go and catch the views from several different perspectives.

[Hint: the bridge itself is pretty long, and the wind can really be strong, so if you are going to walk across, make sure to bring something warm, as fog and a cool breeze could roll in faster than you could imagine.]

From the San Francisco side, drive through the Park Presidio, but instead of getting right on the bridge, take the turn to the right, and go down to the water level, where you will get a completely different view of the bridge from down below. The Presidio also has many other areas in which to hike and explore.

When you cross, either by car or on foot, there is a turn off as soon as you get to the other side. You can park and get out [although the small lot can get crowded with tourists] and take some beautiful photographs. At times, the entire bridge can be shrouded in fog. At sunset, if the sky is clear, the hues on the bridge change by the minute as the sun sinks into the Pacific.

For an even better view, get off at the first exit, turn back underneath the highway, and make your way back along the roads to Battery Spencer, where you can get a commanding view of both the Bridge and the city. Then you can always drive back under the highway and down around Horseshoe Bay, to the breakwater at the end, for yet another view of the Bridge.

At this point, you are just down the road from Sausalito, where you can stop for something to eat or drink, or just enjoy this small beautiful town on the Bay.

All the movies, pictures built up this image. Not as big as I thought but lovely in any case. Of course at night with the skyline it was even more beautiful.

Rent a bike from pearl and start joining the beautiful views. Pass the bridge and go to Sausalito. Sausalito is a small town. It has a lot of restaurants and boutiques. Nice place. You will have to take the ferry.
