It is worth the walk and the tiny elevator ride because the views are amazing!!! I would totally add it to your list of must sees while in the city!!

“Expansive Views from Top; Murals of Workers at Base”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2013

I live in Berkeley and brought a visitor from Paris to the Coit Tower in San Francisco. We took BART to the Embarcadero and walked to the base of Greenwich Street stairs, adjacent to Levi's Plaza Park.

We walked up approximately 200-300 stairs to reach the top of Telegraph Hill, upon which Coit Tower was built. There is a small circular parking lot in front of the Tower, with some views of the Bay, but wait until you get to the top of the Tower for the best views, 360 degrees around San Francisco.

From the circular parking lot, walk up one flight of stairs to enter the Tower, and view many murals of workers, laborers, farmers, vintners, bakers that are painted throughout the entire bottom floor of the Tower. Circling around the base of the Tower, you finish at the elevator to take you to the top of the Tower. The ride up is about one minute. Exiting the elevator, you walk up another approximately 20 stairs. At the top of the stairs is the open air summit of Coit Tower, with 360 degree unobstructed views of San Francisco, the Bay, Golden Gate Bridge, downtown, Bay Bridge, the pyramid Transamerica Building, the Embarcadero (waterfront). Use your camera or phone to record postcard-perfect views. The expansive views will excite and enthrall you.

I highly recommend a visit to Coit Tower for the memorable views and a unique experience.

1. Take public transportation and/or walk to the Tower. There is very very limited parking at the summit (approximately 20 car spaces). It is much better to take a Muni Bus or BART and walk. From the Embarcadero BART station, it is approximately 15 minutes to the Levi's Plaza and the base of the stairs. It will be about another ten minutes to walk up the hill to the Tower.

2. The Tower is open: Every Day from 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM in Summer (Mar 1-Sep 30); and Every Day from 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM in Winter (Oct 1-Feb 28).

3. Admission Fee - Important: Cash Only. To take the elevator to the top of the Tower, the Admission Fee is $7.00 per person. Purchase your ticket at the cashier in the gift shop on the first floor. It is cash only. There is no charge to visit the bottom floor of the Tower to view the murals or the gardens and views outside the Tower.

Have fun!

Rediculously slow elevator up and down, stairs was closed, for over an hour to get up and down for 3 minutes of viewing is not worth the money, especially if it is busy.

“Excellent place to visit”

Nice place to visit and walk to, up through old town. Fantastic views at the top of the tower. Only $7 to go to the top.

“Great views!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2013

Our 2nd day in San Francisco, my wife and I climbed the hills from the Embarcadero up to Telegraph Hill and the Coit Tower. The walk (climb!) up the hills was great. I couldn't believe some of the hills the houses were built on. Arriving at the tower, we caught our breath and enjoyed the views of Alcatraz and North Beach. We paid the $7 (each) for the elevator trip to the top of the tower. We had to wait in line for a bit, but we were able to enjoy the interesting murals painted around the inside of the ground floor of the tower.

Arriving at the top we were captivated by the views. It was a clear day, which helped, but we had a 360 degree view of San Francisco, from the Golden Gate Bridge all the way around to... the Golden Gate Bridge. Well worth the price of admission!
