We walk from Chinatown to Coit tower and it was so cool. Amazing views on the walk up and then the murals in the tower were so cool. I spent a good 30min looking at them all. I didnt go up the tower, just looked at the murals. There are restrooms in the tower and one outside.

We then walk from there to Lombard St which took about 10min.

There are fantastic views from the top, but quite cramped and enclosed. The lift is ok (no steps) and they squeeze you in there. There's a bus route that goes past the tower if you want to save your legs, and equally good views of the city from the car park out front. If you drive up there aren't many car places, or you can walk up the many many steps from the direction of the Embarcadero. Worth a visit.

The Coit Tower contains some really interesting history and the view from the top is absolutely amazing.

Just make sure that you wear a coat as it is very windy up there!

We walked up the 500 (or so) steps but you can get a bus up. On the ground level there are murals all around the inside of the base. To go up to the top level, either via stairs or elevators, it's $7. I am scared of heights but felt fine at the top. Fantastic 360 views of San Francisco

Beautiful murals around the base of Coit Tower depicting many stages of the life of a worker. Small, crowded gift store on the first floor. We paid the $7 to go up to the top. Be prepared to wait in line to take the elevator - there was no stair access available. The view is lovely although if you're looking for a view and plan to be at the de Young Museum, you can access the tower there for no additional cost after you pay your admission.
