Owner description: A shopper's paradise, this bustling square near the theater district has everything from upscale department stores and boutiques to discount houses. After a $25-million facelift in 2002, the cosmopolitan hub boasts a huge amphitheater, granite pedestals on which street entertainers perform and a tree and flower-lined environment in which to enjoy an espresso or an elegant meal.

Great shopping area with a huge Macy's and Neiman's right off the square. There was a Taiwan celebration in the square that weekend so check with the city to see what events will be there when you visit. There's a great Cheesecake Factory restaurant on the top floor of the Macy's with outstanding views - be sure to get a piece of cheesecake and enjoy the view!

Union Square is buzzing with activity, board a cable car or the open top Big Bus, have lunch at Macy's and take a photograph of Union Square, shop, or just sit and people watch.

Union Square is the center of the shopping district of San Francisco, which I personally find one of the best shopping areas that I have ever visited. Almost all the lovely shops (department stores and many brand stores of luxury brands) are a short walk away and the variety is huge. Union Square itself is a nice place to take a break.

Union Square shopping was located just across from our hotel. There were tons of great stores and lots of good buys! The best part was that the cheesecake factory was located just above it!!

We visited Union Square just to spend a leisurely afternoon after returning from visiting Lombard Street. There is a wide variety of stores in the area along with restaurants. We found the stores to be seriously overpriced and would not recommend the area if you are looking for bargains. The outdoor area in the center of the square is beautiful and has a very relaxing feel to it.
