“Beautiful with pinnipeds”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

I loved Pier 39. The shops, restaurants, vendors on the streets & street performers is a must experience. We walked and enjoyed each aspect of the different piers: fresh crab, bread, all kinds of fish, pastries, ice cream, sandwiches, etc. We could see Alcatraz from Pier 39! I loved the barking sea lions. Parking is a little problem- not many places to park. It is better to come by mass transit then bring your car. A lot hotels charge for parking. Overall, was a great experience.

“crazy crowded”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

Lots of stores and places to eat and of course the famous Pier 39 sea lions. Go see the lions before you eat as the smell over there and all the things big fat sea lions do for you while watching might bother the full stomach !!

“Sea lions and shops”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

By all accounts the chap who built the Pier 39 attraction almost went bankrupt because of cost overruns on what is a shopping mall on stilts. Yet there are some nice food outlets, clothes shops and jewellery stores which don't all need a bank loan to visit. There's also some tat. At the weekend it was rather crowded but during the week less so. Of course, the 150-200 sea lions that use the pontoons in the marina to sunbathe or bicker with one another are the star attraction. But they are both noisy and smelly.

“Look for resident seals”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2013

My daughters and I had a good time at Pier 39, the seals on one of the docks in the inner harbour were great to look at and see their antics. The jet boat ride in the harbour is one to take lots of fun.We ate at a mexican eatery/restaurant the food was beautiful and lots of it, almost too big, welcome to america and huge plate size meals.

“Lots of crowds there for seal watching.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2013

It is a great place to seal watch, but way crowded. To get a picture of the seals, it is necessary to wiggle your way through the crowds.
