It is a must see whilst in San Francisco. Lots of shops, eating places and the best thing was the sea lions. You can watch these for quite a while. The view is spectacular and is a great tourist destination.

We're so happy to hear you had a chance to stop by PIER 39 while visiting from Australia! Thanks so much for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor. One could easily spend the day shopping here but we're glad you had a chance to say hello to the beloved sea lions too. Watch them anytime with the Sea Lion Webcam! http://www.pier39.com/home/the-sea-lion-story/sea-lion-webcam/

We look forward to seeing you again on your next trip to the U.S.!

You may not like this place if you are not use to crowds. Go on the weekdays in the morning, it's packed on a nice sunny summer weekend day. The clam chowder and sore dough bread bowls are great. The shops are for tourists but the shows are for everyone. Parking sucks so try the garages up the street. Be prepared for windy cold weather and dress in layers, good insulated wind breaker is good. Lots of shops along the street Embarcadero (sp?). Enjoy the chowder.

A fun, lively pier with lots of souvenir shops & places to eat & drink. In easy walking distance from Pier 33, where the Alcatraz boat departs from & the end of the pier has a nice view of Alcatraz island itself. Unfortunately, the sea lions had moved south to give birth when we visited in July, but they are normally a big tourist attraction.

While it's clearly targeted at tourists and its food venues run towards the expensive side, I could definitely see the appeal in spending time on Pier 39. There's plenty of boutiques and restaurants to browse, a few fun distractions (I loved the mirror maze), and live performance to lend the place a really fun, festive atmosphere.

Escaping the noise to quietly take in the Bay is also easy, and there are some lovely restaurants for those wanting a more relaxed or romantic way to end their day. Definitely one of my favourite places in San Francisco.

The pier area is nice with lots of shops and restaurants to check. There is a lot to see lots of crowds, like the view of the bay area and the Alcatraz jail. The only downside is parking was to expensive it range from $20.00 to $45.00
