“A wonderful evening”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

I found this via the web while visiting earlier this year, what a great place. You walk in and feel transported to France. Not in a kitschy way, but rather with the genuine warmth and coziness of a village restaurant. And then the food comes and you absolutely know you made the right choice! I had duck confit and the charcuterie , both were outstanding. Nice wine list as well. I always look forward to my sf visits and hopping the streetcar down to castro for dinner and a movie at that great theater, another step back in time experience.

“Top-Notch French Bistro Experience in the Castro”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2013

This truly hidden gem (up Noe from Market) serves up French bistro realness in every sense of the word. Everything from the wine list to the evening's dessert selections has been carefully chosen and prepared to yield une expérience vraiment française. We have never had a bad meal at this wonderful little restaurant, and we go there every time we're in San Francisco. Highly recommended!!

“Are we in Paris or San Francisco?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

My wife and 21 and 20 year old son and daugher had a wonderful evening with two friends who two of our friends who live nearby this cozy Parisienne restaurant. From the heavy curtain blocking out cold from the the door, to the chalkboards listing tonights specials, to the red & white striped lamp, to the stuffed rooster, to the French wait staff...we were transported to a neighborhood bistro in Paris. The food was exceptional, even for our less "foodie" twenty-somethings. Starters included Warm Goat Cheese salad, Hericots Vert salad and Escargot. Mains included Coq au Vin, Sea Bass, Duck Confit and a couple tendor and flavorful Filets. The wine selection was excellent and desserts of Raspberry Tart, Creme Brulee, and the Floating Island topped off the dinner. Afterwards, we were treated to a historic tour of the nearby Castro neighborhood by our friends.

“A bit of Paris in San Francisco!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2013

This is a wonderful small bistro with very rich and delicious French food, happy to discover it as happened to be in the neighborhood we were staying in on our visit to SF! We started with the escargot in potato cups, I bit into them thought they tasted like artichoke heart cups, really delicious nonetheless, I had to have another. We also had the prawns in ravioli, they were heartlly filled with the prawns, rich and wonderful. Next was the brussel sprout salad - it did not disappoint; for my entree I had the quail special on a bed of potatoes and greens my husband had the duck confit, our friends had the rack of lamb and also the filet mignon, all of their entrees came with these incredible french fries cut like thick potato chips, I sampled some from every plate! A good choice, definately plan to come back when visiting SF again!

“A charming place to dine in San Francisco.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2013

If you are feeling like you want to be in France while living or visiting San Francisco then L'ardoise Bistro is the place to dine. The food is wonderful, but I was also struck by the attentive, but not stuffy service, and the charming surroundings. Another plus is that the noise level is o.k., you can actually hear what your dining companion has to say. Prices are moderate, wine selection is good.
