We saw Dark Star Orchestra and it was amazing...the sound and the openness of the Fillmore is great. The only downside is that there was no seating so we had to stand the entire time. It is a lovely piace of architectural history.

Between the history (check out some of the posters displayed on the second floor), the relative intimacy (you can get pretty close to the bands), and the attention to sound quality, this is a great place top see a show. Unfortunately, the cost of beverages keeps me from giving them an "excellent" rating.

I watch a lot of live shows across the country and it's always interesting to note the number of performers, half-way through a show, comment on how much they enjoy playing here. Whether it's the legendary history of performers and performances, the great lighting, the variety of areas to explore, the well-balanced sound, the historical framed performers on the walls, the convenient bars or staff wandering through the crowd (both with over-priced drinks), the top-hat greeters or the fresh bucket of apples we're welcomed to when we enter, this is my favorite venue in San Francisco, despite it's modest size (the perfect balance between the larger and also great Warfield or smaller, fun Independent). From what I've seen, the audience seems more engaged shows at the Fillmore than other similar-sized venues across the country. The wide dance floor lets you right up to the elevated stage; if you're so inclined, you can be right up by the performers, or watch from the much-smaller upper level. If there's a performer you're interested in, (a lot or just curious), I think this is the best place to check them out.

Attended COSMIC LOVE BALL event with opening act Leanna Rachel and Love in the Circus and featuring EOTO and Materialized. Excellent venue with amazing sound and energy. VIP tickets gave us balcony seating, but we would've been okay on the main floor. (In fact, the sound was better on the floor.) Cocktail waitress was the best I've had at these type of music venues. Friendly, attentive--didn't act like she was doing us a favor. My 60+ year old aunt wanted to go see Love in the Circus at the Fillmore for her birthday! Great time overall.

So many great acts have traveled through the Fillmore. Nice venue, easy to get close to the stage if you're there early enough. Sound is good and cocktail servers in the crowd make for a fun night.
