“All American Breakfast”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

Stacks is located in the heart of Hayes Valley, not far from City Hall and the hub of San Francisco's music, ballet, and opera delights. I had breakfast there recently and it was a totally All American treat. The place was lively with others who were defying the advice of their doctors to enjoy pancakes and omelets and sausages and.... Well, you get the idea. It was great. I enjoyed every bite. Great breakfast, fair price, fast service - just what you would expect and just what I enjoyed. The next day I went "on the wagon" and returned to my diet of whole grain muffins and fruit in very limited amounts. However, for one morning I was in breakfast paradise. The serve lunch too. I imagine it's just as satisfying. Go for it! You can always take a really long walk afterwards and try to believe as if you have burned the calories off.

“Best pancake in the city...no debate”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

This Hayes Valley institution has been crushing the panckace competition for some time now. The pancakes are golden, fluffy, and just a little crisp on the edges. The bloody Marys are perfect, not to thick, very peppery with an ample amount of produce. This is a great place for brunch with flower arrangements abounding everywhere. The only problem? This place is no secret and long wait times are too be expected. Just stroll around Hayes Valley for an hour..its worth the wait.

“Good food and great service”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

Good location....food is good...prices very reasonable. Waiters are very efficient and attentive. Seems like a popular restaurant...it was very busy this morning but service was still good. I recommend this restaurant.

“Best breakfast!”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

We don't eat out much for breakfast, so when our son invited us to Stacks', we were ready to go! Stacks' had a 30 minute wait and it was well worth it. It was very crowded, and the menu was extensive and excellant, especially the lox/bagel/caper combos and the latte's. We were in a hurry and the staff was very respectful of that, speeding things up despite extreme business.

We will return. It was one of our best breakfasts!

“Great food, but jeeze, layoff the up-selling”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

Great and plentiful food (I had a delicious biscuits and gravy (which i was craving after seeing it on Food network recently) it came with a big bowl of the biscuits and gravy which were both very well done, a small ramekin of fruit salad, and very well done home fries. No quibbles about the food. The space is OK, the abundant use of rust paint and the huge fake floral arrangements give it a slightly fussy and stale air that i didn't love, and made it feel even more crowded than it is.

It's a bit of a wait on the weekend for brunch, but where isn't?

The staff was nice enough all around, but our waiter was determined to up-sell every item ordered ("Would you like some avocado, jalapenos on that?") He finally convinced us to order a single (huge) pancake to share, which was more food that we needed.

Seriously, ease up on the up-sell!!

But the food was delicious, i can overlook a lot for well done food.
