my son {30} and i went to the arl summer 2013. the service and lodging were both unbelievable . the daily fishing was as good as they advertise and the guides made me from a non fly fisherman to a productive flyfisherman in a short period of time. one of the best parts of the week was the lack of television and electronic bombardment. they had all the emergency equiptment that a lodge would need, but the day to day telephone usage is naught. the relaxation factor was wonderful not being tied to the phone. by the way did i mention the fishing was great. we caught everything from 40 inch salmon to rainbows on the rise. i would recommend this lodge to anyone who wants to fish, get away from it all, see beautiful scenery and wildlife, and be treated like a king.

Room Tip: which ever one the assign you they are all big and beautiful

My wife Nancy and I have been to several Alaskan lodges. Ron Hayes, owner, runs and organizes one of the best fishing lodges of all. Ladies: If you fish, you will find the lodge cozy and comfortable with great food, and a wonderful host and hostess. You will fly out daily to the most beautiful rivers and landscapes in the world. The fly outs will take you to the best trout and salmon fishing you can experience. The guides (which make your trip) are experienced and knowledgeable. Thank you Alaska Rainbow Lodge for many memorable vacations! Dr. James McBride, Dallas, Texas

Room Tip: All the rooms are really nice -- the Alaskan, Hawaiian, African, etc. -- all theme oriented!

We have visited other fly-out fly fishing lodges in this area before and will tell you that Ron and Sharon Hayes run a first class operation. We give them exceptional high marks for:
1) Interaction with the guests: At some other lodges, you just check in and it is up to you to meet other people there and the staff. Here the staff interacts with the guests during dinner and cocktail times and they make sure you know everyone. The interactive atmosphere is great! We loved being able to talk to the guides and management at dinner time. Ron's stories about his 40 plus years of Alaska guiding and being a bush pilot are very informative and entertaining.
2) Quality of Guides: Here you have veteran guides who know the area well and guide other locations in the off season so they are full time all year long. Some of them have been guiding there for up to 9 years. Many lodges use college students on summer vacations so it can be the luck of the draw if you get someone who knows what they are doing and know the river you are fishing
3) Meals: You will definitely be well fed with top quality meals here and also at lunchtime on the river.
4) Quality of Lodge and Planes: The rooms are very well maintained and the planes and pilots are top notch!
5) Above and Beyond Service; When we had trouble with an airline reservation canceling for our trip out of King Salmon, Sharon got on the phone herself late at night and early in the morning and got things cleared up for herself. This is just typical at what you will find at this lodge where they know how to take care of their guests.
6) Location - You are right on the beautiful Kvicak river, a famous trophy river in AK plus it is just beautiful there.

Thanks for sharing the details for your trip to our lodge. Information is the key to booking a fishing vacation that meets your expectations. It's a real advantage for an avid angler to read information from a customers point of view, one who has fished with us and knows the fishing program we provide for our clients.

We just got back from a week at ARL and could not be more impressed. Everything was perfect! We travel a lot and also own a hotel so the attention to detail by Ron and Sharon did not go unnoticed. The food was 5 Star every night, the guides were awesome, the pilots were top notch.

I will recommend this trip to anyone who wants a truly world class fly fishing experience.

AND, we caught LOTS of fish.

Room Tip: Can't go wrong, river view is nice

We appreciate the comments on your fishing vacation at Alaska Rainbow Lodge, especially the "World Class fly fishing experience". It's nice to know that the little things get noticed. The devil is in the details and we try our best to dot the "i" and cross the "t".

From the arrival at the mighty metropolis of King Salmon the level of service was excellent. I went with a friend and it was the first time for both of us at an Alaskan lodge and Alaska Rainbow Lodge didn't disappoint in any way. The fishing was amazing and the guides who came from as far afield as Chile and the UK were knowledgeable and charming - special thanks to Juan.

Each day we flew out to a new river with fresh challenges and while some days were harder (and some almost too easy) than others the fishing was always outstanding. The trout fishing is spectacular and the specimens are sometimes huge!

The lodge itself is comfortable. My only niggles would be tiny ones such as I would love to have seen more local fare on the menu and I wish that there had been some decent wine and beer - and no, Bud, Coors and Miller don't count as beer!

Overall though, the experience was totally memorable and I would recommend it highly to any anglers out there.

Thank you for taking the time to review my lodge and fishing program. If you decide to fish with me again, let me know about that beer and I'll see what I can do.
