“excellant value”

A great local Italian eatery that holds its own with much of the North Side. Restaurant is small with an upstairs room. Don't let the white cement exterior fool you, this place is worth the stop. Just be prepared to bring home left-overs.

“One of the best traditional Italian restaurants around”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2012

When we lived in Quincy, we went to Gennaro's on a regular basis. Now that we've moved away, we definitely miss it. Charleston SC is a foody town, but there's nothing as good as Gennaro's there for traditional Italian fare.

Their prices are low, quality is really high, and servings are huge. They have a small and large portion for most of their offerings, and a small is everyone else's large. Their large portions leave many people meals at home for a couple of additional days. Many of their waitstaff have been there for a long, long time. Highly recommended.

“average meal and not sure if we will return...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2012

We have been to Gennaro's Eatery many times before. Tonight was not one of the better ones. We were pleasantly surprised to get seated quickly considering it was right at the dinner hour. Our drink order was taken and bread and butter was delivered to the table right away.

We split a small salad which our waitress suggested was enough for two. She was correct. It was just the right amount. I ordered the chicken, ziti and broccoli in white wine sauce. It was a lot of ziti and liquid but did have a good amount of chicken and broccoli.

My husband ordered the chicken parm and ziti. He went with the small once again at the suggestion of the waitress. He was disappointed when he cut into it and found out that his chicken was veal. When we brought it to the waitress's attention she checked and said she did in fact order chicken for him. But wondered "did he like veal"? Not for nothing but if he wanted veal he would have ordered it to begin with.

She apologized and returned quickly with an average piece of chicken parm and once again a very large bowl of pasta. How about a little less pasta and a little more chicken parm?

The waitress's stood behind our booth for the better part of our meal "loudly discussing" who's turn it was to get the next party and whether children should be counted as a member of a party or not. We didn't need to hear their bickering.

All and all the food was average and we will think twice before returning to Gennaro's Eatery.

“Great food!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2012

We like to get take-out from Gennaros and take it home for dinner. The portions are plentiful and there is enough to feed my husband and I. You also get some fresh homemade rolls and they are yummy. The owner is a sweetheart...he is so friendly and totally shows how proud he is of his restaurant. The prices are decent too.
