“The Bluenose Inn is Awesome!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2006

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely nights stay at the Bluenose Inn on what was the last night of their 2006 season.
The staff was friendly and helpful when needed but not underfoot .Our room was absolutely beautiful and very clean. It was spacious and had a magnificient view of the bay. Inspite of it being their last night, the hotel itself was very clean and well organized. Absolutely nothing "looked" closed-up.
What a wonderful time we had! You will not make a mistake in booking yourself a room for 2007! I know we will stay again!

After traveling around Maine and staying in many quaint bed and breakfasts, I found the Bluenose to be an overpriced dissapointment. and the staff to be unfriendly. Our high-priced room (in the Stenna Nordica part of the hotel) was very much a nice, but over-priced motel room. The open walkways lend nice views of the ocean, but no privacy as other guests pass your room. I felt especially bad about this choice when passing many other small and beautiful hotels and b&bs in town (not even out of town, like the bluenose), that were advertising much better prices. This hotel stay was definitely the low point of our time in Maine.

My #1 problem with this review is that these guests apparently did not enjoy themselves and departed dissatisfied. My #2 problem is that we never found out about their dissatisfaction until well after their departure....we never had an opportunity to possibly remedy their situation. #3, but most painful to me was their opinion of our staff as unfriendly. I am most proud of the friendly accommodating nature of all of our personnel and their dedication to ensuring complete satisfaction from all of our guests. The vast majority of the reviews on TripAdvisor are very supportive of our staff and their commitment to service excellence.
It appears these guests were more interested in a "B&B" type experience and Bar Harbor does have some nice B&Bs. However, they do not have 4 Diamond restaurants, indoor and outdoor pools, a beautiful Great Room bistro and bar with one of Maine's finest pianists playing every night in season. They do not have a steam room, a Jacuzzi, fitness center, and massage services. And I don't believe they have a staff anywhere near as friendly and accommodating as the staff at Bluenose Inn.
The Bluenose Inn has two buildings for accommodations, the Stenna Nordica and the Mizzentop. While the Mizzentop is more luxurious, the Stenna Nordica is very well appointed and offers a Four Diamond experience and amenities at competitive pricing. There are rooms with lower pricing in Bar Harbor, but not with comparable property-wide amenities and services.
I feel badly that these guests were unhappy, but I sincerely believe their review was quite unfair and did not even closely describe our wonderful hotel.

Beautiful hotel, with amazing oceanviews!!
After reading positive reviews on this website, we booked a top(4th) floor at the mizzentop building.
The location of this room allowed for a 180 degree view of the harbor, with spectacular sunrises.

Staff was exceptional, and there was nothing that we even needed to call down to reception for.

Great stay, and worth the price!!

  • Liked — sunrise view from the room
  • Disliked — We werent there long enough
  • Tips/Secrets — request 4th floor mizzentop

We just left the Bluenose Inn and are already longing to go back! Our experience couldn't have been better. The bellmen, Kevin and Roy, were extremely attentive and helpful. Beatty in the gift shop was a true joy and gave the best advice of places to go. Kevin (food and beverage coordinator) was absolutely the nicest person we have ever dealt with at a hotel.

Our dinner at the Rose Garden was fabulous and the Chef was definitely first class. The lamb was cooked to perfection and dessert was something we will never forget. I recommend the chocolate mousse cake and creme brulee. While we had other places to go during our vacation, we extended our stay at the Inn to just enjoy the ambiance. I highly suggest the Mizzentop (2nd floor) for a breathtaking view.

The fireplace, sitting area and private balcony made you feel as though you were home and not in a hotel room. Breakfast was a little walk up to a sister hotel with a great view of the bay - while you can get a ride up to the restaurant, the walk was perfect after the breakfast of blueberry pancakes or eggs benedict. For off-site meals, Beatty advised us to go to Trenton Lobster Pound for a true lobster bake and it was icing on the cake for our Maine experience. In short, our experience was absolutely perfect! The only warning is for smokers - this is a total non-smoking property with a $200 fine if caught smoking in room or on balcony.

My wife and I took a last minute trip to Bar Harbor. The Blue Nose Inn is a great place to stay. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. Staff is very helpful and friendly. View from the property is spectacular. It is important to know that the hotel is substantially better than its "motel-like" facade would lead you to believe. Only drawback is that it takes 15 minutes to walk to Bar Harbor village.

Very lovely hotel, but if you are not on the 2nd or 3rd floor viewing the harbor, its blah!! Very clean, awesome indoor pool, but bad location. Bar Harbor is a very busy town and parking is a pain. If you have small kids like us and are not there to bike or hike than this is NOT the hotel. We ended up moving the 2nd night to another hotel right on the harbor close to all the excursions, shops and restraunts. This worked out better for our family as were did not do any biking or hiking. We hung out in the town, and did so some exploring but had great parking for out rental at our new hotel. The Bluenose Inn is great for couples, or families that are in Bar Harbor to do a lot of other activities not in town.

  • Liked — Very clean, great indoor pool
  • Disliked — The location
  • Tips/Secrets — Very victorian, and request the 3rd floor in the main part.

We had a 2 night package plan which we found to be a good value if you use everything in it. It included a meal at the Rose Garden which was outstanding in every way. The breakfasts were very good and our boat ride was lovely. The staff was very helpful and polite.

We stayed on the 2nd floor of Stenna Nordica, which has a great view of the harbor. There are chairs outside but no private balcony. It had every room amenity you could want except for air conditioning. There was an air blower but its not the same. The windows open but you block them when you close the curtains. The King bed was comfortable and the towels plush. Terry robes are also provided.

We did not mind the walk to town. In season there is also a free bus service that runs every 15 min or half hour depending on time of day. It leaves from the hotel next door.

We hope to stay here again.
