Our room was spacious and clean but smelled of mold. The front desk staff spoke poor english and were hard to understand and were not overly helpful. The hallway outside our room was nasty smelling. The views around the hotel were spectacular. The dining staff was nice and accomodating and the food was average. I will choose another hotel next time.

Dear Glynis407,

Thank you for staying with us. Our hotel is very proud of its level of service, cleanliness and quality of its product and for this reason your comments are very troubling and will certainly be looked into.

We will follow up with the executive housekeeper regarding the odor you experienced to ensure that similar incidents won't happen again. While we understand that your stay was not 100% satisfactory, we would hope that you would give us another chance to make your stay as best as it can be.

If there is anything we can do to make your next stay more comfortable, please do not hesitate to ask the Manager on Duty. Your business is valued and we hope your future travel plans will continue to include IHG properties.

Regards,

Brenda J.

We were updgraded to an ocean view with balcony and the view of the water was fantastic! The hotel is a bit dated but the grounds are beautifully manicured - nice gardens and pool overlooking the ocean. It is outside the hustle of Bar Habor but there is a shuttle every 30 minutes into town and back so you don't have to worry with parking in Bar Harbor. The lobster pound was closed for the season and the clerk - who was very helpful - recommended Stewman's in Bar Harbor. (See my review.) I will give high rating for the hotel service because the hotel clerk coul dnot have been more helpful, but I cannot say the same for the restaurant. We only had breakfast. When seated we were not offered a menu but just told to go to the buffet. The waitress did not tell us the price ($15) and had to search when I asked for a menu. I had to order from the menu due to allergies and ut took so long to get my food my husband had finished and we waited another 15 minutes before I got my food. It was very average and over priced. So...great hotel but not so great restaurant experience. Our only complaint about the hotel itself is that we were right across from the cleaning supplies room; they kept the door open and the fumes permeated the hallway. However, we could not smell it incside the room.

We WILL stay here again for the beautiful grounds, the views, convenience, and helpful staff, but we will not eat here again.

Room Tip: Any of the ocean side rooms woudl be nice but we would not want to stay in the building that is on t...

I loved this hotel. It is on the water in Bar Harbor ME, with two minute drive to restaurants and attractions. The room was spacious and comfortable with a balcony. It was two minute drive to entrance to Acadia National Park, unfortunately it was during the Gov. shutdown and we were not able to get into the Park. Would recommend this motel if you are in Bar Harbor.

Hotel number one is in a beautiful location with great grounds
Hotel number two is a 50 minute walk from Bar Harbor along some of the worst pavements I have ever seen
Hotel number one has a great restaurant with good food and a lovely, helpful manageress
Hotel number two has a bar man who doubles as a waiter so has little time to man the bar and has a waitress who, when bringing my meal to the table, told her colleague "that's hers!".
Hotel number one has ice machines in the hallways for guests
Hotel number two didn't manage to get ice into the water served in the restaurant!
Hotel number one has a bright airy reception
Hotel number two has a female receptionist who insists that check in is at 4pm and expects you to either return to your car with your luggage or sit in reception where there are no facilities to leave bags at all. However this only applies to platinum priority members as the next person to check in gets their room key straight away and it's only 3.15! Oh and hotel number two is where the janitor is more help than the receptionist, letting us know that there was no where to get a drink but at least he looked!
Holiday Inn need to be made aware that whilst the hotel has the look and visible standards of an IHG property, some of the staff need reminding that they are part of a global brand and should be proud to be affiliated to that brand and carry the badge with pride. Whilst the Regency is a lovely hotel to look at, some staff let it down! Also as a platinum priority member, I have never stayed at an IHG property and not at least been given a bottle of water or had somewhere to store my luggage. There were enough closed up rooms and areas that could have been made available.

... and the staff was reasonably chipper... but not much else to say to recommend. we reserved in advance, asked to room with ocean view on high floor. we got one, but right over the air conditioning and kitchen exhaust units. furniture beat up furniture, uncomfortable mattresses. ok, it is better than a dive, much, much better. but for $200 a night plus taxes, fees... just not worth it.'

Overall we were disappointed. The nice brochures for the Regency look great, but the reality doesn't quite match up. Granted it was the end of September, but it felt like the place was closed up for the winter. The dock was closed off and the restaurant and bar by the water and pool were closed, yet the weather was great. Although, the pool and whirlpool were still open. The workout room is a joke. They say there is a marina, but I don't know where they would be able to put it. The breakfast coffee shop was also closed.
They put us in the "Eden House" rooms, which seems to be a small tower unit off to the side of the parking lots and has it's own separate entrance and a Holiday Inn sign. This looks like it may have been a separate hotel, and it quite dated and a distinctive musty odor throughout. The Regency must just be just changing over to the Holiday Inn. The staff didn't seem to know or at least weren't willing to tell us the story.

Room Tip: Stay in the Regency side, not the Eden House rooms. I don't know if they are any better, but I...

We traveled to Bar Harbor with another couple and were pleasantly surprised by this affordable hotel. We booked an oceanview room and were not disappointed by the excellent view of the bay and the well manicured and well maintained grounds. The room was very clean and included a balcony where we had coffee in the morning overlooking the harbor where the cruise ships were anchored. The onsite lobster pound was closed for the season, but the hotel restaurant offered a great assortment. We ate breakfast there twice and ordered off of the menu and and also enjoyed the bufffet. The wait staff was extremely friendly and we enjoyed chatting with them getting recommendations as to where to go in town during our relatively short stay. The Island Bus is really the only way to go when getting to and from town. The bus is free (donations are appreciated to keep it running)so there was no hassle with trying to find in town parking, which is limited, and would have been difficult with all of the pedistrians walking around town. Housekeeping did a wonderful job keeping the room and bathroom clean. We tipped them a small amount daily and even got a thank you note from one of the housekeeping staff. The entire Bar Harbor experience was fantastic and I would definitely recommend this hotel as a perfect place to stay when traveling to this area!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd and 4th floor oceanside have the best view.
