My husband I stayed at the Bar Harbor Inn for three nights and was not happy with our accommodations. The service and the restaurant was great. Our room was in the main part of the Inn. The baseboards were very dirty, not enough hot water to take showers, towels were very rough. We will never stay there again. It is way over priced for what you get. One other thing that was great was a view of the harbor.

We recently stayed three nights in the Newport Bldg. at this hotel. You simply cannot beat the location. The registration and check-out process went very smoothly. We had a wonderful dinner one evening in the hotel's Reading Room restaurant (see my separate review). Our room was a little disappointing, considering the price we paid. True, we had everything we needed, but the bedspreads were a little shabby looking, and the place could definitely use some updating. All of the personnel we encountered (front desk, Reading Room restaurant, Oceanfront Lodge for breakfast in the AM, or just passing on the grounds) were great - efficient and friendly service. The complimentary Wi-Fi access was very slow. You have to pay extra for high speed Wi-Fi. The complimentary continental breakfast was adequate. There are no hot items, but they did offer a variety of fruit, cereals, yogurt, breads, muffins, pastries, hard-boiled eggs, etc.

Nice hotel in that it is a quick walk to town and the dining areas and breakfast room overlooks the water and is quite beautiful. The food is good and grounds are nice. The hot tub was not clean on our visit. The rooms are very disappointing. You think you are going to get this nice beautiful room based on the grounds and the hotel lobby etc and then you walk into your room and think you are at The Holiday Inn. No offense to the Holiday Inn but it was not what I expected and was very disappointed especially by the bathroom. It was so plain and just basic! The beds were also uncomfortable. The breakfast that is included would have been better with some hot food and one day they ran out of plates and bowls and we had to wait while they were cleaned.

Room Tip: Not sure if they have different levels but the standard room is very basic

We spent 3 nights here during a two week road trip through New England. There was a special that included full breakfast each day, a dinner, lobster bake lunch and a sailing trip! The food was excellent! The sailing trip very relaxing. The inn is the best location in town, right at the dock overlooking Frenchmen's Bay. Our room was nicely decorated, clean and convenient.

The room is good but a little small. The location is perfect. We went downstairs and walked two minutes then saw a beatiful ocean view. The breakfast is good but would be better if it has hot eggs, bacon or sausage. I would come back if visit Bar Harbor in the future.

We just got back home after five great days at the Bar Harbor Inn. This was our second stay; the previous was three years ago. I would say that one's review might be biased based on their room. There are basically 3 wings of the hotel. One section, The Newport Building, where we stayed 3 years ago, is basically in the parking lot, offering travelers little view, but with a lower rate, and detached from the main building. The second section, the Oceanfront Lodge, is also detached, but oh what a difference; it faces Frenchman's Bay and the views are spectacular. The third section, The Main Inn, where we stayed this October, is in the main building, and here rooms also vary by their views. All rooms are nicely appointed, but the rooms in the main building are very Victorian, as one would expect from a "Grand Old Hotel". Be clear when making reservations your priorities; price or view. The staff is extremely friendly, there is a free continental breakfast every day, the Reading Room offers a five-star classic dining experience, the hotel is in walking distance to town, and of course the views are spectacular. We think that views trump price here, only because during inclement weather it’s easy to spend the day in your room with a good book and view!

I did not stay at this hotel, but I wanted to recommend their restaurant. We had dinner at the restaurant at the Bar Harbor Inn a few days ago. The room is lovely, our waiter was attentive without being intrusive and our food was delicious. I had a chipotle tomato soup to start and a haddock dish off their specials of the night menu. Everything was delicious. What makes this dining experience really special is the live piano music played throughout dinner. I would also recommend cocktails on the Terrace at this property. On a nice day, the view from the Terrace cannot be beat and neither can the cocktails, especially of Lonnie (the blender King of the world) is making your drinks. Hint - try the mudslides!
