We just returned from a 3 night stay at the Bar Harbor Inn and I can honestly say that this is the first time that I truly didn't want to return from a vacation. We were fortunate enough to book a package that included 3 breakfasts for 2, a complete dinner for 2 and a Lobster Bake for 2. The package was well worth what we spent. The food was all top shelf and our choices were unlimited. The Inn itself was incredibly beautiful and the staff was delightful to a person. Our room was large and overlooked the Harbor. Each morning we woke up to find a different cruise ship directly outside of our window. The location of the Inn is within walking distance of the center of town and all of the shops which is a definite bonus because you don't have to worry about parking and an abundance of pedestrians. This was truly a vacation to remember and likely a standard that we'll find hard to match. We're already planning our return next year.

From the moment you step into lobby & see the richness of all the chairs & sofas you know it's gonna be nice. Valet takes all to your room. We had ocean front with a balcony. Ate breakfast in restaurant the regular free breakfast was nothing to talk about. Great hot cider & cookies in lobby at night. Right near all the shops no need to drive unless your off to Arcadia park which is a must do!

We stayed at the Bar Harbor Inn under the Autumn Leaf package. Two nights, 2 breakfasts, a dinner in the Reading Room, a lobster bake, $25 gift certificate in the gift store, and the choice of a boat cruise or bus tour of Acadia Park. It was pricey ($700), but well worth it for a special occasion (my mom's birthday). The hotel is beautiful; grounds are well maintained and there are gorgeous flowers all over. It is located a block from downtown Bar Harbor and right on the water. Our room was in the main building with a small porch overlooking the heated pool and next to the spa. There is coffee and a continental breakfast in the lobby each morning and coffee, hot cider, and homemade cookies in the afternoon. The food was fantastic! We had blueberry stuffed French Toast (awesome!), blueberry pancakes, apple crepes, and eggs Benedict for breakfast; all were very good! The dinner in the Reading Room was great, too. The lobster pie was full of lobster and very filling, and the salmon with maple butter was very tender and sweet. A piano player accompanies the meal and is very talented! The lobster bake on the second night was over the top: a cup of chowder, clams and mussels, salad, lobster with corn on the cob, blueberry cornbread, and blueberry pie. Fortunately we did lots of walking at Acadia Park! It was a little chilly for the cruise and we preferred to show ourselves around Acadia. This is not an inexpensive vacation, but it is a fantastic treat!

Room Tip: Splurge on an ocean view if at all possible!

I chose this hotel primarily for its excellent location in Bar Harbor town.  Easy to explore the town and restaurants on foot from here.

I didn't quite realise how upmarket it was with the spa, bathrobes and all that and at first it felt like I'd probably paid for some amenities I didn't really value.

That was until on my second night I kicked back with a beer on my balcony from a ground floor ocean view room, and admired a totally breathtaking view. Then I didn't regret this choice for one minute.  Add to this a decent sized clean room, free coffee and cookies in an elegant reception area and a generously sized complimentary continental breakfast and this place was suddenly looking much better value.

Yes, it's a bit expensive relative to other options, but not markedly so and it's not like the cost isn't known in advance of you deciding to stay there!

Room Tip: The ocean view rooms with private balcony are worth considering.

We have just arrived home from a short trip to Boston and a 4 night stay at the Bar Harbor Inn. This hotel is charming and its location could not be better, sitting right on Frenchman's Bay and within a minutes walk of all the amenities of Bar Harbor and its many excellent restaurants. Acadia Park is a 5 minute drive away and there are regular coach trips leaving from near the hotel. You can also join the many whale trips and tours that explore this part of New England coast from near to the hotel.

The Hotel Reading Room restaraunt has fantasic views over the bay, the food was excellent and the service was attentive. Breakfast was also held in here so we looked forward to every meal.

We had an Ocean front room with the water literally lapping at your patio door but it did need updating. The bathrooms are below standard for what you would expect, paying this amount of money. Our room was small but the WIFI worked, bed was comfotable so no issues there.

Whilst the bathroom stopped us giving this an "excellent rating", it would not deter us from staying here again.

Positives of a 3-night stay in September 2012 include an amazing view of the water from the balcony (very enjoyable just to sit and stare)... super continental breakfast buffet in the lodge building just a few steps from the room... comfortable beds. All that was worth the somewhat steep price for an outdated room.

Fan in the bathroom didn't work well. Coffee maker didn't work well (warm water instead of hot, and slow). Comforters on the beds didn't feel very clean. The clock didn't work properly. It was those sorts of annoyances, along with the obvious wear and tear in the room and the very outdated bathroom suite, that made it an average stay despite the awesome location.

Room Tip: Ocean view in the lodge.

We stayed at the Bar Harbor Inn for two nights on a recent trip through New England. The location of the Inn is great, close to everything. We selected a room with a bay view and we were not disappointed. We were able to see boats and ships entering and leaving the harbor, including the cruise ships and the local sightseeing sail boat. The inn has nice areas to relax outside and watch the boats and people mulling about and is adjacent to the walk path along the shoreline which provides a nice opportunity to take a stroll or exercise. The inn itself has a very interesting history and takes you back in time and includes several pictures and letters from times gone by. If you are looking for a nice relaxing place to stay with a bit of history and an excellent location I would recommend The Bar Harbor Inn.
