Ivy Manor Inn - Village Center

This is my first review, I don’t normally make the effort but this place was special. Ivy Manor is the epitome of what B&B should be. Christine and John treated us like extended family and gave us great info on local places to see, eat and drink. Walking distance to downtown without being stuck in the hussle and bussle of the waterfront. Combine this with with a great breakfast to get us going, we had a ball. I would reconmend this place to my mother and she can be picky! Highly recommended.

We cannot recommend the Ivy Manor Inn enough. From the very start, meeting Christine and John, the well appointed room to the excellent breakfast - it was a pleasure. The Ivy Manor Inn is situated right in the heart of Bar Harbor, within walking distance of the shops and restaurants. The Inn itself has a timeless charm - homely yet elegant. The room was beautifully furnished and had an attractive, working fireplace. Breakfast was exceptional in the true sense of a gourmet breakfast. John and Christine were excellent hosts, friendly and very welcoming. We wish John, Christine and family every success with this new venture. If you stay in Bar Harbor this is the place to enjoy your vacation.

Room Tip: Some rooms have their own deck area.

- Great Location: right in downtown Bar Harbor, close to all the scenic spots, great shops around the inn

-Great Service: We did a late check-in and John welcomed us and showed us to our room. Christine meanwhile had left 2 delicious cookies for our gastric pleasure. We were carrying our own wine and were pleasantly surprised to find 2 wine glasses and a corkscrew awaiting us in our room the next day!

- Great food: The breakfast was tailored to our taste and diet preferences. Water, Tea and Coffee are available throughout the day.

- Great Inn - Charming Victorian house with the best amenities and very comfortable and homely!
This place is highly recommended!

The Ivy Manor Inn is in a great location...walking distance to everything! The house is spacious. We stayed in the Royalty room and loved it! It had a balcony and a king size bed. It was a nice suite with a closet and bathroom. Breakfast was very good and creatively displayed. John and Christine are very friendly and they were able to tell us great places to visit and sites to see. Would love to go back and visit again!

I had to be in Bar Harbor for work this week and decided to stay right in the middle of town. Apparently there are new owners. I met them and they showed me around and all the improvements, including before photos. Room was great, oversize king bed, free wifi, tv, modern bathroom with old world charm. Fresh baked chocolate chip cookie on the dresser. Breakfast was superb, fresh fruit, scone, cheesy potato hash brown, and baked egg in a dish of Canadian bacon. I was so pleased that I already booked two more nights there for my next two visits.

Despite having our rehearsal dinner here in 2004, my wife and I had never actually stayed at the inn in our fifteen or so visits to Bar Harbor. With the discovery that there were now new owners, we decided to give it a try.

For those that visited during Judy's long tenure, you'll remember her fondness for the decor and countless knick-knacks. Both are now gone, and the change is what was needed. There is now room to move about without fear of sending an ornament tumbling, or knocking a tray out of a server's hand as you make your way to the restroom.

We spent a weekend here in March, just before everything in town had been dusted off for the season, which let us establish an intimacy with the town (I know in July I won't be able to diagonally cross the Mount Desert/Main Street intersection without a car in sight).

Likewise, it's clear the new proprietors, John and Christine, want to get their feet under themselves before the season gets into full swing. They were very attentive, and a few small details added a touch of finesse. As another reviewer wrote, the same was true for us: cookies (and a welcome card) greeted us in our room ("Toulouse", room number 4). Also, wine glasses were left out for us; we were told to come and go as if it was our own house; and their two young children made a couple of cameo appearances, which left you feeling like you're part of the family.

Christine is currently the cook, although a full-time chef is rumored to be waiting in the wings. Her food was outstanding, especially (for me) the ham and egg breakfast cups (with the former being said cups) and the cheese-potato side. This wouldn't surprise me if she was a classically-trained chef, but I had an inkling that she was just a talented home cook. I was proved right when we questioned her on it just before we checked out.

With the move away from the expensive fine dining, which restricted the clientele, to a more accessible casual menu, it's looking like the inn will be the jewel of Main Street again this summer and hopefully for many more.

We're already looking at booking for June, when a couple of my relatives from Scotland will be over on vacation.

My husband & I visited the Ivy Manor Inn for the first time a couple weeks ago & absolutely loved it! The new owners were very accommodating with two warm chocolate chip cookies, in our room, upon our arrival. The next morning we had a delicious breakfast consisting of yogurt & fruit along with "Breakfast Strata". For dinner...mouth watering lobster! There isn't a fitness center, but we tried the YMCA which is within walking distance. There weren't a lot of shops opened this time of year, but loved the fact that the Inn is so close to everything. It is quite cozy which makes one feel right at home. We both would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Romeo & Juliet suite spacious & cozy / bed very comfortable.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Ivy Manor Inn is an elegant inn located on Main Street in Bar Harbor Village. Built as a residence in 1939, it was converted into an inn in 1996. Without compromising its English Tudor style, the owners renovated the interior and added new features such as ensuite bathrooms, decks, mantel fireplaces, and off-street parking. Ivy Manor Inn is an inn, not a bed and breakfast, and while we do serve tea, coffee, and a variety of breakfast treats, we do not have a full breakfast. With that said, there are over a hundred restaurants within three blocks of the inn, providing guests with a variety of dining options. We offer twelve gracious queen and king suites. Most have fireplaces and adjacent decks. Each suite is unique in shape, furnishings, and character. Bar Harbor’s popular Village Green, with its fountain, bandstand, and inviting benches, is located diagonally across the street. Nearby shops and galleries abound. Access to the mile-long scenic shore path is but one street away. ... more   less
