My husband and I had a lovely time as guests in this magnificent Victorian Inn dripping with history and magnificent furniture, light fixtures and artwork from that period. Our room had so many wonderful touches, and all of the conveniences one would expect in a 4-star hotel. What a joy to sleep in a big comfy bed with oodles of comfy pillows and the curtains softly blowing in the breeze. Coffee/tea creamers and cookies were available to guests 24/7 in a community room on the 1st floor, as was an ice-maker, microwave, refrigerator with freezer, games, books on every aspect of Maine/Bar Harbor/Acadia and events. Lots of suggestions from Beth, our hostess. So much to enjoy in Bar Harbor, and nearly everything walkable from this extremely convenient and central location. All stars for this wonderful Inn!

Room tip: Room 202 has cross breezes, lace curtains, narrow shower in the bathroom ensuite, very comfy bed. Narrow steep stairway.

Our initial impression was a bit off-putting as there is no reception desk or person when first entering the property. We were early to check in and just wanted some information and had to call a number posted on a sign. We soon learned that the manager was in an office in the back of the first floor and she did have us come back to speak with her. Our room was very clean and comfortable and the location was such that we never used our car again during our visit.

Thank you for staying with us and for reviewing. With parking spaces both in front and in back of the inn (more spaces are in back), the physical office is located at the back rather than at the front of the building; although many guests do enter at the front where a welcome phone, instead of a desk bell, rings the innkeeper's cell directly -- from which the innkeeper can either welcome guests to the back office or answer questions over the phone. As we say, the "inn office" is actually the innkeeper's cell phone, as the Innkeeper can be anywhere on the property at any given time, and may not necessarily be in the physical office especially outside of check-in hours. We hope that you and all of our guests will feel right at home, and know you can always reach the innkeeper and are most welcome at Central House.

Perfect central location for your visit to the sites and tastes of downtown Bar Harbor. The rooms are very nicely done and you'll get a good nights sleep. The house setup has everything you'll need with a great front porch for socializing and dining area for you to use. Breakfast restaurants are all around you, including a very good one just across the street. You are only a short drive to Acadia National Park!

Room tip: Downstairs rooms can be a bit noisier, but you don't have carry luggage upstairs.

We liked everything about The Central House. The couple who ran the place were very helpful and friendly. The room was a good size and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was very clean and modern. Our room was on the right front corner and we had no problem with street noise. It was only a 5 minute walk to downtown and about 10 minutes to catch a bus to go to Acadia. There was also a grocery store about 5 minute walk away where we bought some food for breakfast. Our only frustration was the parking. The parking lot was small and we had one day that we had to park on the lawn. Typical for a tourist town in high season.

First of all, be aware that this is an old victorian house and that it therefore has features like rustic doors (as in, they don't isolate sounds) and small showers but if you ask me, in this case it all just adds to the charm.

The owners were wonderfully welcoming, made checking in a breeze and our room was small but cozy and comfortable.

There is some parking around the back but be aware that if you get it in late-ish you might have to park street-side.
We were there during high season and still managed to grab a spot, so you should be OK.
There is coffee and tea available downstairs.

Thanks so much for staying with us and for reviewing. As a period house, Central House has guest rooms in different sizes -- out king rooms are larger and have larger bathrooms.
