While in Maine we decided to go whale watching and it was a great experience. The day was perfect, the ride both out and back was smooth as can be and we saw porpoises on our way out. Once far enough out we located two humpback whales who provided us with wonderful views for over an hour. The crew and the naturalist, who provided a huge amount of information, were all very nice. Even though the boat was crowded I didn't see anyone getting sick, the boat was very clean and the whole trip enjoyable. As other reviewers have stated...dress warm. Even though it was in the mid-eighties when we left shore the trip out & back were very chilly. But it was so worth it. The whales were amazing!

My husband and I took the lighthouse tour on a beautiful, sunny Saturday morning. The boat was full, but not overly crowded. Jackets were a must and sunglasses were helpful. The narrator was exceptional- a former college English professor. The trip along the coast was most informative and enjoyable. We saw four lights up close (from the boat) and one just barely from a distance. The water was quite choppy due to the previous day's storm and almost didn't go. The lights were Bear Island, Bass Harbor, Baker Island (from a distance), Winter Harbor, and Egg Rock. Lots of sea birds visible on Egg Rock along with two eagles. If you like lighthouses and the coast of Maine, I highly recommend this trip.

I've always wanted to see whales in the wild and Bar Harbor Whale Watch certainly delivered. At one point there were so many whales we didn't know which direction to look. Very cool trip and totally worth the money.

Humpback whale came right up next to the boat and hung out for about five minutes showing a great view of his body. Def worth doing. Not sure how often the sightings are or how close they will be but ours was great. Lots of seasick people and annoying kids but sorta expected. Dress waaaaarrrrrmmmm.

I undertook this trip with some reluctance since I don't normally enjoy following crowds of tourists. But the prospect of seeing whales in the wild was enough to overcome my resistance. Yes, there was a big crowd, herded into a corral-like holding pen after the required photograph (presumably taken for commercial rather than security purposes). The boat was large enough to accommodate the passengers fairly comfortably, and the weather was cold enough that a number of passengers stayed inside the cabin, thereby leaving viewing space on the bow for those willing to brave the wind and cold.

The captain announced that, due to inactivity during the morning's trip, we would be going to a spot that hadn't been traveled to for a couple of weeks, and his decision proved to be highly propitious. Soon after arrival (some 28 miles offshore) a humpback whale emerged, diving and spouting. This was quite thrilling to see, and we were later told that this particular whale had been first cataloged back in 1998.

An onboard naturalist offered helpful and intelligent commentary. Although we had been told that the morning cruise was the most likely to produce whale sitings, we were highly pleased with the sunset tour.
