We stayed 4 nights in mid September, 2011, in Cabin 5 which was very newly renovated. It was really nicely done, nice furniture, etc. Before making reservations, we asked about a portable crib and were told they had one, and that they would just have to find it. Got there, and they did not have one. Our one year old was not able to sleep on the bed, so thankfully they did go out and get a new pack and play (thank you!).
The cabin was FREEZING upon our arrival, with no heaters, furnace, or working fireplace and some pretty cold weather. They did bring over two space heaters (one functional, one not), which did heat up the place pretty quickly, and it stayed nice and warm with that, other than the bathroom which was chilly for our entire stay. The decorative fireplace still had a fully functional chimney (ie. a 12 inch square hole for heat to escape!) so we stuffed it with newspaper to keep out some of the cold. Seems it should be closed off!
For the first afternoon of our arrival, an employee was pressure washing a vehicle right out in front of our cabin for several hours, which made for a noisy day and gave us fears of the rest of our time. Thankfully, that ended and the next 3 days were pleasant.
The kichen did not have a microwave, which was sort of a suprise, as we had grocery shopped on the way from the airport and bought food expecting a microwave!
We did not have much free time to explore the grounds of the cottages, but it looked very pretty. It was a nice place to stay, and we would not hesitate to stay again, though our start was rocky!!

WE spent 3 days in cabin 14 the last of September. It was completely updated with new apllicances and a lot of attention to details in the decor , very nice and clean. Staff were great and the location is close to Bar Harbor.. Quiet atmosphere... Enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend. We had everything we needed and will be back.

Room Tip: Stayed in cabin 14 very nice

We recently stayed in Hinckley's Cottages and were DELIGHTED with our stay. I think we were in cabin one - at the far end from the office, 2 bedrooms with a screened in piorch. Yes, we were nearer the highway but honestly, the noise never bothered us and frankly by the evening the traffic dwindled down to a trickle anyway - not a problem. The booking was effortless, payment, explanations, pictures - all easy and accurate. We were coming from OH, never been up north, we were tourists with a capital T - we literally picked lodging off the internet. I was slightly terrified! The price was crazy low for a cabin and I was SKEPTICAL. FYI- I have travelled all over the world, from Shanghai to Paris and all around, and two things really bother me - smells and bathroom cleanliness. I have to say, our cabin was SPOTLESSLY clean, bathroom was perfect, kitchen clean, bedding was clean and soft - wonderful, total A+ from me!

We also enjoyed our trip to Acadia and Schoodic Bay, we enjoyed our meals at several of the nearby restaurants, we LOVED the beer tour, we went into Bar Harbor and bought some groceries to save a few bucks - the kitchen was great! The highlight of the trip was a seafood feast we cooked in our cabin. We knew NOTHING about cooking seafood yet we went to Parson's on a local recommendation, spent $33 (!) for 4 lobsters, a lb of HUGE shrimp, and several lbs of clams and mussels, boiled it all in our cabin and had a great seafood FEAST! We came after the pool was closed but it looked nice. I am sure the summer has a whole 'nother vibe but we REALLY enjoyed our stay and recommend it heartily! We also drove in from Portland via Hwy 1 and that was SLOW but beautiful - the stop at LL BEAN and the shopper's mecca at Freeport was fun, too! Bar Harbor was great - so much fun, such a touristy little place. Loved everything about Maine - LOVED IT!!

Room Tip: We had 4 adults and only one bathroom but we survived. Our cabin was VERY spacious.

not surprisingly other people had similar experience, however it was difficult to find something else available for the time needed, so we weren't left with much of a choice. When one is a guest, they expect to be treated as guests, not like a jerk (after all this is a business relationship and their business relays upon customers). Complaints or questions are not welcome at that place!!! the owner will make regret anyone who had ever brought up an issue, does not matter if they are right, with quite an obnoxious attitude. So be aware....

This place is a no-brainer for a long weekend get away on the cheap. The cabins are located within minutes of downtown Bar Harbor and the visitor's entrance to Acadia. My dog and I stayed in cabin 8a which is located at the rear of the property backing up to a wooded area to a grassy field with a stunning mountain view, very private. There was a small porch off the back, nice to sit out there in the morning while my dog putzed about in the field. The decor in our cottage was very dated but not offensive, it was very cozy, simple, cabin like, perfect place to come back to after a long day of hiking. The cabin came with all the essentials, fridge, bathroom, toaster, coffee maker, utensils, dishes, cable tv., bed, chair, table, etc. Everything was clean They do provide towels, but they are on the small/non-fluffy side, so I would recommend to bring your own. Bed linens were clean but out of date, I always bring my own sheets and blankets anyhow. I got some wi-fi on the back porch of our cabin. Rate was very low, something like $90 per night, cheap.

Thanks to all the staff for their dead on recommendations of things to see.
Will be back next year.

We travel to Bar Harbor frequently for business and pleasure. We love staying at Hinkley's because the cottages are a perfect blend of low key, relaxing, clean, comfortable, close to town and reasonable. Though they're conveniently located right on the main drag into town, they are private and charming. Beds are super comfortable. Old screen doors and views of the woods lend a peaceful cottage appeal. Theres no glitz, but theres plenty of great, friendly service ready to help with whatever you might need. This is a gem of a place!

Room Tip: there are cottages that view the woods and also ones that have fireplaces
