“Made our first trip to Bar Harbor memorable”
Reviewed August 12, 2014

We just returned from our first visit to Maine and Bar Harbor and had a fantastic experience. Staying at Thornhedge Inn played a big role in making it such a memorable vacation. The Inn is very relaxing and gives you easy walking access to all the shopping and restaurants in Bar Harbor. We stayed in the Chatwold room on the main floor, which was probably the largest B&B room we've ever stayed in and was very comfortable. But the best feature of Thornhedge is the innkeeper, Andrew. First, with his Bar Harbor family roots, he has deep knowledge of the local area and Acadia National Park and can help you plan your days and personalize your vacation. Second, his breakfasts are simply killer. Absolutely delicious and gourmet without being over the top. Truly something to look forward to every morning. And the afternoon wine and snack time is a great touch and a good way to get to know your fellow guests and compare experiences after a fun day. Finally, he's just a good guy to talk to while you sit on the front porch with Ben, his dog and inn mascot. We'll definitely return to Thornhedge.

This was our first B & B experience and a last minute idea to spend one night in Bar Harbor added onto a lengthier vacation in mid-coast Maine to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary. We found availability at Thornhedge and the price was very reasonable so we decided to give it a shot. We are so glad we did! Andrew, the owner, was an absolute joy. He exuded warmth and friendliness and made us feel so welcome from the minute we arrived. Our room, Strawberry Hill, was charming and had a very comfortable bed. The A/C was on when we arrived so the room was a nice temperature on a warm August day. It was so quiet and relaxing and the inn is in a great location with a short walk to the shops and restaurants. The wine and cheese party was wonderful and we got to meet fellow guests and chat with them. Everyone was so friendly and Andrew was a wealth of knowledge on the history of the area. He recommended restaurants to us for lunch and dinner and they did not disappoint. The gourmet breakfast served the following morning in the dining room was delicious - yogurt and fruit followed by homemade quiche and sausage, homemade blueberry muffins, juice, and coffee. Andrew waited on us hand and foot as we chatted with him and other guests. We were sad that we only stayed for one night but we both agreed that we will return in the future.

I stayed here back to back weekends in July, first with my mother and then with my husband. My grandparents stayed here in the '80s when the current innkeeper, Andrew's, grandparents ran the place. It is as cozy and quaint as I imagined it being with modern amenities like air conditioning and wi-fi. Andrew was a terrific host. He can tell you anything you want to know about the island - most importantly all the best places to eat out no matter what you're looking for. The Inn's morning breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese hour on the porch are not to be missed! We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: I stayed in the main house and the addition out back - both were great, spacious rooms with AC!

We intended to go camping in Bar Harbor, however the weather forecast changed our mind. We decided to stay at a bed and breakfast and thankfully landed at Thornhedge Inn. The accommodations surpassed our expectations. Andrew was a wonderful host, with a wealth of knowledge and great tips. The Inn hosts wine and cheese every afternoon from 4 to 6, however guests seem to stay and chat about the days activities until 8 some nights. The gourmet breakfasts were also a bonus treat. One thing that I loved about staying at Thornhedge is the location, walking distance to everything in town, and within minutes to Acadia. Loved this place. We will be returning.

My wife and I stayed at the Inn on our honeymoon in 1984. While there is not too much I can recall from our first stay, I do remember how nice the inn was decorated and maintained. Once we got there this time, Andrew the Innkeeper made us feel right at home. We did not realize that Andrew is the grandson of the original owners. He has kept up the tradition and you feel like you are stepping back in time once you are there. Andrew is a gracious host and is very knowledgeable about places to dine and sights to see. The Inn is ideally located to town and most everything is within walking distance. We stayed three full days and wish we had a few more days. Planning on returning next summer , this time with our 27 year old daughter and boyfriend.

Happened upon this place looking for a reasonable last minute stay. The inn keeper was young, hip and charming which added to the ambience. Most B&Bs are run by knowledgeable middle aged couples but Andrew added a contrast to the turn of this century Victorian. Making a stuff formal atmosphere warm and inviting.

The evening wine and cheese in the parlor was frequented by guests sharing stories of their daily adventures. The Inn Keeper and his pooch, Benjamin made you feel at home and welcome!

The room was nicely appointed with furnishings and linens appropriate for the room. I was shown three rooms and was allowed to pick my preference, a nice treat at a place like this.

The breakfast was a three course delight. Muffins and breads with coffee, fruit parfait, and finished with generous portion of blueberry French toast with a plentiful portion of bacon.

Overall, I would say it was an excellent place, with very appropriate price tag. I will definitely make it a point to return on my next trip!
