They say that Burning Tree is in Bar Harbor, but it is not in the town. it is about 15 minutes away in a little town called Otter Creek. Well worth the drive though, as the food is very special.
This restaurant is excellent in every way except for the party of 8 seated next to us who were a loud bunch of yahoos with 5 empty wine bottles on the table - which explained a lot. ;-))
It is a small place. We were seated in a corner, which we love. The ambiance was hip, casual, elegant and trendy. The place was packed. But all the wondrous restaurants we have been to in and around Bar Harbor have been very full. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and didn't rush us. We felt that he really loved his job as he did it very well.
We started out with crab, shrimp and scallop fritters served with chili aioli dressing. Just delicious. Then my husband had mixed green salad with Tahini Ginger dressing, and I had a Roman salad which was frizee, endive and goat cheese. Also very tasty. For our entrees, I had the house special which was filet of sole with heirloom tomatoes and crabmeat on top of a corn, white wine and cream sauce. The vegetable was beets with red onion and a vinaigrette - cold. The perfect accent to a perfect dish. My husband had perfectly cooked salmon on top of spicy baked beans. There was a hot coleslaw on top of the salmon that he said was awesome, and the red bliss potatoes rounded out his delectable dinner.
This is another restaurant not to be missed. Reservations a must unless you go early.
We skipped dessert, opting to go back to our West Street Hotel and have free cookies and brownies. Mouthwatering as always.
