“good bar food”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

We stopped here after a tiring day kayaking and it definitely hit the spot. I believe my husband got a burger and I got the chicken sandwich, both were very good. I heard during another tour that the tin in this restaurant was actually taken from the Rockefeller estate when it was torn down. Interesting tidbit...
Anyway, you can't really go wrong with this place, the prices are better than a lot of the other places we went to, the service is perfectly acceptable, and the food was GREAT! We enjoyed it.

“Best chowder in Bar Harbor!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013 via mobile

The food here is great. Whether you're grabbing a burger, fish taco, or a salad, you will be pleased. We always eat here multiple times each week we come to Bar Harbor. There's a reason it's packed and a reason it's packed with locals. It's great pub fair food.

“Terrific tasty time at the Thirsty Whale!”
Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

Wow, what a nice change! Great atmosphere with punched tin ceiling and walls, beautiful wood plank tables, and nice very casual servers. Absolutely delicious food. 5 adult/teens $90 before tip. Fishermans plate of fried seafood &16 awesome, Maine fries shrimp soooo tasty and way better than Log Cabin, spicy clam and corn chowder was outstanding and lobster roll good. Buffalo chicken sandwich is way spicy and BBQ chicken sandwich was awesome! Best sweet potato fries we ever had. What a find! How can we eat anywhere else now?

“Great fried clams only the beginning”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

In a town overrun with overpriced tourist traps, the Thirsty Whale is an oasis. If you like whole fried clams (with bellies), lightly battered and perfectly deep-fried, this is your place. If you like good New England clam chowder, this is your place. Lobster rolls? They're terrific, too, and I'm a native New Englander who's eaten more than his share of this stuff over the years. Prices are amazingly low - for anywhere, not just a pricey tourist town: an appetizer-sized portion of fried clams - the size of a dinner in most places - just $10; full clam dinner, with a huge portion, $14; lobster roll/chowder, $15.75; haddock sandwich with chowder, $10. We ate here five times in three days, it was that good. Their service is also top-notch and though you can sometimes have to wait for a table (no reservations), the waits aren't long, and usually shorter than stated. They've also got a full bar with excellent top-shelf spirits, also at exceptional prices. In every respect, this place is a well-run establishment and a good place to watch the Sox.

“One of the best lobster rolls and awesome chowder we found!”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

The Thirsty Whale was recommended by our innkeeper. Glad we stopped in for a bite to eat on our first night in Bar Harbor. The special was a lobster roll and chowder, it was a good deal and very flavorful. We tried many lobster rolls during our week long vacation and didn't find a better one in town, We also enjoyed a blueberry beer for the first time and must say it was great. We found some in town to buy and bring home with us. Stop by, relax and enjoy.
