A wonderful place to stay when visiting Bar Harbor. Rooms were spacious, bathrooms were very clean, and the bed was comfy. It was priced right and from what I could gather from the other reviews, it was very well located in the town. Once we arrived and went out and about, we found this to be very true. We parked our car at the hotel (free) and walked everywhere for 3 days. The manager asked us to comment on our stay on Tripadvisor and to make any suggestions for improvement. The only things that I would change would be the continental breakfast (but we knew about this before booking, so no biggie) and the bathroom products were not replenished daily and the shampoo was a shampoo/conditioner in one-YUK. The front desk gal was not from Bar Harbor and could not reccommend any places to eat-what?? But, these were minor, minor things. We would definitely recommend and stay there again!

Stayed 2 nights at the hotel. The location is in just right location as it is just outside the hustle & bustle of the main part of the town. An easy walk anywhere for restaurants and bars. The beds were really comfortable and the rooms spacious and clean. Breakfast was also enjoyable.
Good coffee.
Good price.
Recommended.

Average sums it up, you could do better or worse. The best thing is the 3 day package where 2 very fine and otherwise expensive meals are included. Hotel is in a great location but the walls are thin and it is noisy from both the interior and exterior. Staff was just ok, seemed burned out. Breakfast, a hot button subject for this hotel, was adequate for us since we are just coffee and muffin people. Rooms are spacious, especially the bathroom, great water pressure. Would I go back? Probably not since we saw many other fine properties in the area.

Room Tip: Stay in wing away from the front desk and on top 2 floors facing away from the street. I imagine the...

I would have rated it five stars but for the wi-fi problem. We were on the 3rd floor and had no wi-fi access during our stay. Four trips to the front desk finally revealed the problem. Wi-fi doesn't work for tablets, iphones and kindles except on the first floor. They have a different server for the first floor than they do for the rest of the hotel. I had to sit in the lobby to gain access, which was a real pain. Other than that, they came up roses in every department (although I'm not a fan of continental breakfasts, I knew that when I reserved a room).

The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good - plenty of food and a lot of variety. The location is great for exploring Bar Harbor and catching the buses to MDI.

We really enjoyed stayed here. The hotel is located towards one end of the main drag through town, with everything in town close to hand. There is a large car park which is great in a very busy, congested town so you can park up and leave the car out of the way. You don't even need it to explore Acadia Natl Park and the rest of Mt Desert Island thanks to the excellent free bus service sponsored by LL Bean!

Our room was in the building away from reception and at the end of a corridor so we didn't hear much in the way of passing footfall. That was probably just as well as the walls did seem a tad thin we we didn't have noise neighbours.

The room was really large, as was the bathroom albeit a tad dark. There was an iron and board, and a guest laundry downstairs which we took advantage of. Wifi was free and worked well and we really enjoyed the continental breakfast. Some reviewers complain about it but we thought the cereals, toast, muffins, bagels, eggs, etc were more than ample to fill up on. My only criticism would be the slightly watery orange juice from the machine.

The hote also offered a small outside pool that looked very nice but we simply ran out of time. After all, one of the US's most scenic national parks is right on your doorstep!!

Room Tip: Try to get one in the building away from reception and the breakfast room and faving to the rear.

This was our fourth visit to the BHGH on Mt. Desert Island and it was as fabulous this time as the previous times. We have stayed at many other places, but this is the only place we will stay while in Bar Harbor.

It is clean, quiet and centrally located. The choices at the breakfast buffet are numerous. Having both a refrigerator and a safe in the room is another plus.

Better still is the staff. They are friendly, very accomodating and go out of their way to help make the time on the Island memorable.

  • Liked — Friendliness of the staff
  • Disliked — No view of the ocean.
