We had a wonderful time at the Hearthside! Barry and Susan are excellent hosts. The rooms are extremely clean and comfortable, the breakfast is delicious. Barry and Susan know the area very well and will provide maps, suggest tours, and assist whenever possible. The Hearthside is a great place to stay, and we will be booking a room there for our next visit to Bar Harbor.

Now that the dust has settled, the suitcases unpacked, and the bags of gifts secreted away, its time to pay a little tribute to the Hearthside Inn....

This was our fourth consecutive vacation in Bar Harbor and the third consecutive stay at the Hearthside. Yes, we DO like it that much. Why? Location, affordability, accommodations, and hospitality.

You can't ask for a better location: nestled a few houses in from Cottage street, you're close enough to the shopping, yet just enough removed to be peaceful.

The Inn is very affordable! Checking rates around the vicinity you would be hard pressed to find a better bargain!

Accommodations are MORE than adequate! We aboulouely LOVE "our" room! There were some comments posted about "little things" like plastic cups instead of glass... (does anyone REALLY find that a problem??), and the inability to take guide books from the B&B -- that one is simply not true... During our stay anyone who wished was allowed to use them....

And lastly, Susan and Barry are a delight to stay with. They've been running the inn for 18 years, and having them share stories or offer hiking, biking, or kayaking advice is like having your own private tour guides! They made us feel very, very welcome!

We'lll definitely be back!!

Central location, gracious friendly hosts, wonderful accomodation (we stayed in the Winston Churchill room). This was ideal for us as jumping off point for 5 minute walk to fine restaurants, 10 minutes to the low tide walk to Bar Island. Blueberry cake and blueberry compote at breakfast were both great. The host/owners run a relaxed B&B but clearly are hard at work to assure clean accomodations and deliver on their promise of a great stay.
The highlight of our two week New England vacation first two weeks of August.

On our trip to Bar Harbor we stayed 3 nights at the Hearthside, and two at a nearby B&B. If I had not stayed at the other B&B first I would have thought the Hearthside was fine, the innkeepers are nice and we loved having a room with a private balcony, but it simply cannot compare to the first inn we stayed at. The difference was in the little details: at our first inn the afternoon cookies were left out as long as it took for them to be eaten, at the Hearthside cookies are removed right at 5. At our first inn hot water was available all night, so you could have a cup of tea after coming in from dinner. Not so at the Hearthside. At our first inn we were allowed to take the inn's guidebooks to Acadia; at the Hearthside they weren't supposed to leave the inn...despite the fact they had multiple copies. The glasses in our room at our first inn were glass--at the Heathside they were plastic. These are all little things that I normally would not have noticed. It should also be noted our first inn was in the same price range...so you may want to shop around...

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at this B&B and had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was very friendly and conversational as were the other guests. Barry and Susan were splendid hosts who always had great advice on restaurants or activities. The breakfasts were varied and really tasty.

My wife and I have stay here a number of times over the years since Susan and Barry opened the inn. It is the best B&B we have stayed at anywhere in the country, and we have stayed at quite a number. The facility is in excellent condition and kept that way by Susan and Barry and yet it is inviting, warm, and comfortable. The inn is conveniently located in "downtown" Bar Harbor, so it's a short walk to several good restaurants and outdoors stores. Several of the park entrances are just a few minutes away by car. Susan and Barry set a good breakfast table and are most helpful in making reservations and recommending the best restaurants, the best outdoors expeditions, etc. They attract interesting guests, so breakfast conversation is lively. We have sent friends from different parts of the world here, and all of them loved it and thought it was a special place. We agree.

I have stayed here several times over last 10 years. I just check out the reviews here and I know that it seems unbelievable that one place can be consistantly excellent. BELIEVE IT. This is the best place to stay. The place is beautiful and comfortable. I can't say enough about Susan and Barry! It's like going to a close relatives house and them telling you the in's and out's of the town. They'll arrange reservations at the best restaurants in town and see to it you are happy.

I remember our first time there. It was our honeymoon and on our last night they got us a bottle of Champaign on a Silver Platter with a congratulations note!

If you can't get the same room in a row - don't let it bother you - just get there and they will move your bags. Tell Barry and Susan that Marc and Lisa from NYC miss them!
