When I lived in Bar Harbor, I didn't spend a whole lot of time at the library except to pick up books but when I was visiting this last time, it rained for a few days so I spent two days reading in the library because of the downpours. Needless to say, it is a lovely library (look up) and a great place to spend a rainy afternoon. They have some great scrapbooks about the fire on the island that devastated the large "cottages" and other historical information, as well as a section with book from Maine writers. And the people working there are always friendly. They have a wonderful book sale, I think in August. Miss those book sales too. Although they have opened up a used book store next to the library (in the old eye doctor building) so you can get an affordable read for your vacation.
