“Beautiful Library”

Jesup Memorial Library
Reviewed October 5, 2013

When I lived in Bar Harbor, I didn't spend a whole lot of time at the library except to pick up books but when I was visiting this last time, it rained for a few days so I spent two days reading in the library because of the downpours. Needless to say, it is a lovely library (look up) and a great place to spend a rainy afternoon. They have some great scrapbooks about the fire on the island that devastated the large "cottages" and other historical information, as well as a section with book from Maine writers. And the people working there are always friendly. They have a wonderful book sale, I think in August. Miss those book sales too. Although they have opened up a used book store next to the library (in the old eye doctor building) so you can get an affordable read for your vacation.

Non residents can get a library card by leaving a deposit. They had a big sale last year, not sure if they do that every year but if you're in town when they do, you should check it out. The stuff is old and dusty but interesting to look through.
